Department description:
The office of the Provost is in charge of the Division of Academic Affairs. The Provost oversees all the instructional and academic programs of the university, as well as the academic administrative offices. We support the academic success of our faculty and students by administering programs like faculty grants and recognition awards for research and scholarly activity, professional development activities for faculty and staff, direct services to students, and special initiatives.
The office of the Provost at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full-time Assistant to the Provost/Budget Assistant.

Description of Responsibilities:

Coordinate budget requests, allocations, and personnel hiring plans across Academic Affairs, in partnership with Dean offices and academic departments
-
Track allocations, expenditures, and encumbrances against approved Academic Affairs budgets; monitor budget status and flag issues for the Provost's Office
-
Support the Provost's Office in preparing budget submissions and responses to campus and SUNY system-level budget and personnel requests
-
Advise Dean offices, chairs, and academic units on budget policies, procedures, and processes
-
Reconcile Provost office assigned accounts, working with Dean offices, ORSP, and other college offices to ensure accurate budget, grant, and reimbursement processes

Review and process appointment and extra service forms for Academic Affairs division in Interview Exchange; maintain Temp Service Google spreadsheet

Manage Department Chair processes, including stipend payment creation, reappointments, and searches for academic departments
-
Respond to various departmental, divisional, and other inquiries and requests in a timely manner

Undertake special projects and other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field
-
Minimum of three years of relevant experience in financial administration in a large organization with significant and direct involvement in budget coordination, allocation, maintenance, or other highly related areas
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
-
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others
-
Highly proficient in Excel and Google Suite
PREFERRED:
-
Experience in financial administration in SUNY, other NYS agencies, public/non-profit sector, or higher education institution
-
Experience coordinating budget requests and allocations across multiple units or departments
-
Proficiency in reporting financial information
-
Skilled use of various technologies in a financial setting, including use of spreadsheets, database and reporting tools, and digital forms
-
Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills
-
Excellent communication skills
-
Experience working with and serving diverse populations
