Full job description

Description

A growing private equity-backed multi-location company is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead accounting and financial operations during a period of transformation and growth.

Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will oversee financial reporting, month-end close, cash management, internal controls, inventory accounting, budgeting, and team leadership. This is an excellent opportunity for a Controller or strong Assistant Controller looking to make a meaningful impact within a dynamic, evolving organization.

Why This Opportunity

  • Partner directly with an experienced CFO and leadership team

  • Private equity-backed company focused on growth and operational improvement

  • High visibility and influence across the organization

  • Opportunity to improve processes, reporting, controls, and financial discipline

  • Broad responsibility spanning accounting, cash management, budgeting, and operations

  • Exposure to acquisitions and strategic initiatives

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes

  • Oversee preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements and management reporting

  • Maintain general ledger integrity and review account reconciliations

  • Present financial results, variance analyses, and recommendations to leadership

  • Manage cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and working capital

  • Monitor financial and operational KPIs and recommend corrective actions

  • Oversee inventory accounting, controls, reconciliations, and valuation processes

  • Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures

  • Coordinate annual audits and tax compliance activities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team

  • Drive process improvements and support ERP optimization initiatives

  • Assist with acquisition integration efforts and other strategic projects

Ideal Candidate

  • This role is best suited for a hands-on accounting leader who thinks critically, adapts well to change, and enjoys solving problems in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be comfortable operating with autonomy, making decisions with incomplete information, and helping build a stronger, more scalable accounting organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • CPA preferred

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience

  • Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager experience preferred

  • Experience in inventory-based, distribution, manufacturing, dealership, or multi-location environments strongly preferred

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and cash management

  • Experience working in private equity-backed, high-growth, turnaround, or rapidly evolving organizations is a plus

  • Advanced Excel and ERP system experience required
