Job Title: HVAC Electrical Test Technician Job Description
The HVAC Electrical Test Technician tests, troubleshoots, and verifies the performance of commercial HVAC equipment prior to shipment. You inspect electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems, conduct functional and safety testing, document all results, and ensure every unit meets quality standards and engineering specifications. This role suits candidates with hands-on experience in HVAC, industrial electrical systems, refrigeration, controls, troubleshooting, and testing.
Responsibilities

Test and verify the performance of commercial HVAC units prior to shipment, ensuring all systems operate according to engineering specifications.

Inspect electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration components to confirm proper installation, configuration, and operation.

Perform detailed electrical troubleshooting on HVAC equipment using schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, and layout drawings.

Conduct functional and safety tests, including procedures such as hi-pot testing and lockout/tagout (LOTO), to ensure equipment safety and compliance.

Diagnose issues in motors, contactors, relays, sensors, circuit breakers, and control systems, and identify root causes of failures.

Use multimeters, gauges, leak detectors, and other diagnostic tools to evaluate system performance and pinpoint defects.

Apply mechanical knowledge to support mechanical assembly checks and verify that mechanical components are correctly installed.

Utilize root cause failure analysis techniques and root cause analysis software to document and resolve recurring issues.

Accurately record test results, findings, and corrective actions in electronic documentation systems and Excel.

Communicate test outcomes, issues, and recommendations clearly to team members and other stakeholders.

Follow established safety procedures and quality standards throughout all testing and troubleshooting activities in the manufacturing and production facility.
Essential Skills

Hands-on experience with HVAC systems and commercial or industrial electrical systems.

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, and layout drawings.

Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including diagnosing issues in motors, contactors, relays, sensors, circuit breakers, and control systems.
-
Understanding of refrigeration systems and HVAC controls.
-
Experience using multimeters, gauges, leak detectors, and other diagnostic equipment.

Proficiency with functional and safety testing methods, including hi-pot testing and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.

Basic computer skills, including use of Excel and electronic documentation systems.
-
Good communication and documentation skills for recording test results and reporting issues.
-
Mechanical knowledge sufficient to support mechanical assembly verification and troubleshooting.

Ability to perform root cause failure analysis and use root cause analysis software.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

EPA Universal, EPA Type II, or EPA 608 certification (must have at least one of these).

Experience in a manufacturing or production environment testing HVAC or similar industrial equipment.

Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting and control systems.

Attention to detail and a strong focus on safety and quality.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a technical team.

Work Environment
You work in a manufacturing and production facility focused on commercial HVAC equipment. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Daleville, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.92 - $25.92/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
