  • Controls engineering experience in power generation or a comparable heavy industrial environment
  • Hands-on experience supporting gas turbines, combustion turbines, or combined-cycle facilities
  • Experience with turbine control systems, DCS platforms, or plant automation systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot turbine trips, runbacks, alarms, sensor issues, control logic, and communication failures
  • Experience supporting planned outages, startup activities, commissioning, or functional testing
  • Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, or similar failure-investigation experience
  • Ability to analyze operational data using historian, trending, or statistical tools
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to work independently during complex operational events
  • Ability to coordinate with plant operations, engineering teams, contractors, and OEM controls engineers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and presentations

Pay Range: $45-$70?HR

Skills and Requirements

  • GE Mark VI or Mark VIe experience
  • Mitsubishi Netmation experience
  • Siemens SPPA-T3000 experience
  • Emerson Ovation or DeltaV experience
  • PI Vision, TrendMiner, JMP, Excel, Seeq, or comparable analytics experience
  • NERC CIP or utility cybersecurity compliance experience
  • Controls network, HMI, server, or industrial communications experience
  • Gas turbine fleet engineering or multi-site support experience
  • Controls modernization, migration, or obsolescence-management experience
  • Experience developing technical scopes of work
  • Technical leadership or mentoring experience
  • Troubleshoot gas turbine trips, runbacks, alarms, and other operational events
  • Review control logic, event logs, alarm history, sensor inputs, network communications, and operating trends
  • Support stations with gas turbine and Balance of Plant control-system issues
  • Coordinate controls work with OEM engineers, station personnel, contractors, and internal engineering teams
  • Provide on-site technical leadership during outages, startup testing, and controls modifications
  • Review proposed control-setting and logic changes for reliability, availability, safety, and performance impacts
  • Analyze fleet data to identify recurring faults, degradation, and reliability risks
  • Lead or support RCAs, FMEAs, and corrective-action development
  • Develop scopes of work for controls upgrades, HMI replacements, cybersecurity improvements, and lifecycle projects
  • Maintain controls procedures, technical documentation, and applicable cybersecurity-compliance records
  • Support control-system lifecycle planning, modernization, and obsolescence mitigation
  • Present findings and recommendations to operations, engineering, leadership, and OEM partners

Job Description: Insight Global is seeking a Controls Specialist for a top utility and power-generation client. This individual will serve as a key technical resource for gas turbine controls, plant automation systems, and fleet reliability. The Controls Specialist will troubleshoot operational events, analyze plant data, support planned outages and startup activities, coordinate with OEM engineers, and develop practical solutions that improve equipment reliability and performance. The role will also support controls modernization, system lifecycle planning, HMI and network troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and applicable cybersecurity-compliance activities.
