Job Duties

The License Center Specialist supports the public by evaluating, preparing, and processing a wide variety of state and county transactions, including motor vehicle titles and registrations, driver’s license and identification card applications, DNR recreational vehicle titles and licenses, game and fish licenses, and vital records such as birth, marriage, and death certificates. This position provides front‑counter customer service in a fast‑paced environment, greeting visitors, answering questions, and responding to phone inquiries with professionalism and accuracy. Duties include examining and verifying documents for compliance, completeness, and authenticity; monitoring for fraudulent activity; enforcing data privacy; and ensuring all forms meet state standards before entry. The specialist handles fee payments, records transactions, issues receipts, deposits funds, balances the cash drawer, and reconciles department‑wide records. Additional responsibilities include preparing state reports, supporting local, state, and national elections, maintaining inventory of supplies and licenses, and assisting with various administrative tasks such as data entry, mail processing, and resolving customer issues. The role requires consistent, courteous communication, careful attention to detail, adherence to regulations, and the ability to perform both the physical and mental demands of a busy License Center.

Minimum Education Required

The minimum education required for the License Center Specialist position is a high school diploma or GED.

Minimum Experience Required

The minimum experience required for the License Center Specialist position is two years of customer service or clerical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential job functions.
