Description

The Department of Psychology at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position.

We are interested in scholars with expertise in Social Psychology, Health Psychology, or their interface, especially but not limited to those whose work lends itself to novel collaborative initiatives within the Social and Health Psychology area, across other areas of the department (Clinical Psychological Science, Cognitive Science, Integrative Neuroscience), and/or across other units of the university (e.g., Public Health, School of Medicine, Political Science, Sociology, Social Welfare).

Preference will be given to applicants who have a record of first-rate research, evidence of or potential for funding, and who will be able to teach and mentor students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

We welcome applicants whose scholarship will contribute to the intellectual breadth, methodological diversity, and collaborative strengths of the department. We are particularly interested in work that would complement and further strengthen existing areas of expertise, including health and development across the lifespan; diversity science and health disparities; social relationships and their implications for health, development, and behavior; and advanced quantitative approaches to measuring, modeling, and predicting patterns in human behavior. Applicants whose work bridges these areas or brings new theoretical, methodological, or interdisciplinary perspectives are especially encouraged.

Required Qualifications:

PhD degree in Psychology or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

Training in social psychology or health psychology.

A strong record of publications.

Evidence of funding or potential for funding.

Teaching experience (e.g., teaching assistant, lecturer, adjunct) at the undergraduate level, preferably related to social and or health psychology.

Applicants must include a cover letter (1-page limit), CV, 1,000 word statement of research (past, current, and future directions), 1,000 word statement of teaching interests (including prior experience, instructional goals, and mentoring approach), 500 word statement describing how their professional experiences have prepared them to contribute to an academic community that values excellence, innovation, and access, up to three representative publications, and three letters of recommendation from established scholars in the field.
