Manual QA Engineer (Firmware / Hardware / Network Testing)

Job Description

This tester will be working for a well known hotel company headquartered in Chicago. The will work in their Digital Lab 2-3 days a week at their headquarters, and will be remote the other days of the week, testing hardware devices.

Responsibilities include: Perform hands-on testing of mobile-based digital room key functionality within a physical device lab Validate communication between mobile applications and electronic door lock systems Test end-user connectivity experiences across various Wi-Fi networks and network conditions Execute functional, regression, and exploratory testing across mobile, tablet, and web platforms Simulate real-world guest scenarios to ensure seamless keyless entry experiences Reproduce, document, and track defects while partnering closely with developers and product teams Validate new releases and firmware updates on Apple and other mobile devices Participate in test planning, defect triage, and QA team collaboration efforts Interview Process

Skills and Requirements

3+ years of hands-on QA experience testing hardware or connected consumer products Core Requirements: Hands-on testing experience with firmware (FW) and hardware (HW) in consumer-facing products / IoT / connected devices Experience with mobile device interactions (BLE/NFC, Bluetooth communication, mobile key provisioning/unlock flows) Experience logging issues, analyzing device logs, and collaborating across mobile app and hardware/vendor teams Experience testing mobile devices Strong understanding of network testing, including Wi-Fi connectivity, connection stability, and offline scenarios (airplane mode, connectivity interruptions, etc.) Experience validating functionality across mobile devices, tablets, and web applications Ability to install, configure, and test multiple applications across various devices Experience identifying, documenting, and tracking defects with clear reproduction steps Strong troubleshooting, critical thinking, and collaboration skills Background testing wearable devices, consumer electronics, or IoT products (Fitbit, smart home devices, connected hardware, etc.) Exposure to firmware validation or hardware/software integration testing Experience testing digital key, smart lock, keyless entry, or access control technologies Experience testing SSIDs, network configurations, or connectivity across multiple wireless networks
