This is a Permanent, Part-time, Competitive appointment. Responsibilities At the full performance level (WG-02) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Cleans restrooms, windows, walls, floors, furniture, etc. Empties multiple trash receptacles Works on ladders and scaffolds to change light bulbs, wash walls, etc. Operates powered cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers, leaf blowers, etc. Moves heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment Occasionally provides general labor assistance in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc. Drives passenger cars and pickup trucks to and from job sites Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. Direct Deposit participation required. You are required to wear a uniform and comply with the uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Dexterity and Safety Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Your resume must clearly show that you are able to perform custodial services and motor vehicle operations under normal supervision such as: Assist higher graded employees in performing basic janitorial and custodial work such as sweeping, scrubbing, and waxing floors; washing windows and walls; dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures; and emptying waste cans using hand or with powered equipment. The supervisor provided full instructions, and all work was checked upon completion. Additional Information Additional vacancies may be filled using this job announcement. Part Time Position: This position will work between 20 and 32 hrs/week. Schedule is dependent on workload and availability of funding. Physical Demands: Moderately heavy physical effort is required when: using ladder and scaffolds to clean walls, ceilings, windows, ceiling fixtures, etc.; operating powered equipment; removing cans of or other containers of trash; and occasionally lifts objects weighing over 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Usually works indoors in areas, which normally have adequate, heat, light, and ventilation. Is exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds and when using heavy powered equipment. Occasionally works outdoors in possible inclement weather conditions and/or extreme temperatures. Telework: The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework.
