Full job description

This job opportunity is field assignment with generous per diem provided in either Texas or Louisiana and we intend to hire the "best" candidates.

Your impact

Jacobs is the #1-ranked design firm on ENR’s Top 500 Design Firms list — for the seventh consecutive year — and a global leader in program management. Our Data Center and Advanced Manufacturing practice delivers complex, mission-critical facilities for hyperscale owners, colocation operators, and advanced manufacturing clients.

As a Site Structural Engineer, you will support construction execution for advanced manufacturing and hyperscale data-center projects, serving as the structural engineering presence in the field. You will monitor daily installation activities, coordinate contractors and subcontractors, verify work against approved drawings and specifications, resolve structural issues, and maintain clear communication among the site team, design engineers, Project Manager, Construction Manager, and client. This is a construction-focused field role with technical engineering responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Site Execution & Structural Coordination

  • Monitor daily structural construction activities, installation progress, work sequencing, manpower, materials, and constraints; provide clear field reporting to the Construction Manager and Project Manager.

  • Coordinate structural contractors, subcontractors, inspectors, surveyors, testing agencies, vendors, and other trades to support safe and predictable execution.

  • Review structural drawings, specifications, approved submittals, method statements, RFIs, and field-change documentation for constructability, clarity, and consistency with project requirements.

  • Conduct routine site walks, inspections, field checks, and line walkdowns for foundations, slabs, steel, precast, embeds, connections, equipment supports, roof systems, and other structural work as assigned.

  • Verify that installed work conforms to approved design documents, applicable codes, project specifications, quality requirements, and the engineer’s design intent; escalate nonconforming work and potential design impacts.

  • Coordinate with structural engineers and design teams to resolve field conditions, dimensional conflicts, constructability issues, and technical questions; track RFIs and actions through closure.

Construction Management, Schedule & Quality

  • Track structural work against the project schedule and look-ahead plans; identify delays, access constraints, trade conflicts, and material or design issues that may affect critical-path activities.

  • Support daily reports, progress measurement, quantity verification, schedule updates, issue logs, constraint logs, and short-interval planning for structural scope.

  • Support quality-control implementation, inspection and test plans, concrete and steel testing, survey verification, weld and bolt inspections, punch lists, deficiency tracking, and closeout documentation.

  • Confirm that current approved drawings, specifications, equipment data, and work packages are available to field personnel; identify superseded or conflicting information.

  • Maintain complete, accurate, and auditable records of inspections, photographs, redlines, RFIs, NCRs, test reports, daily reports, meeting minutes, and structural closeout information.

Safety, Commissioning & Turnover

  • Champion Jacobs BeyondZero® safety culture; participate in site safety observations, pre-task planning, toolbox talks, and coordination of safe work practices with contractors and subcontractors.

  • Support construction readiness, structural completion, equipment installation readiness, commissioning interfaces, punch-list resolution, turnover, and operational handover activities.

  • Participate in constructability reviews, coordination meetings, lessons learned, and continuous-improvement initiatives focused on safe, high-quality data-center and advanced-manufacturing delivery.

  • Promote Jacobs’ culture of safety, quality, integrity, collaboration, and inclusion in all interactions with project teams, contractors, clients, and partners

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)

  • Typically, 5-10 years + of experience in site engineering, field engineering, structural construction, construction management, or technical project delivery for complex facilities.

  • Experience supporting structural construction on Data Center, Advanced Technology, Semiconductor, industrial, mission-critical, or similarly complex facility projects; hyperscale experience is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of design-build, EPCM, or owner’s-engineer delivery models and the interfaces among engineering, construction, commissioning, and client teams.

  • Working knowledge of construction documents, structural drawings and specifications, RFIs, submittals, inspections, quality records, daily reports, schedule tracking, and document-control practices.

Ideally, you'll have

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) — PMI certification preferred or in progress

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Structural Engineer (SE), Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or comparable credential preferred; PE/SE licensure is not required unless assigned project duties require it.

  • Master’s degree in engineering, Project Management, or Construction Management

  • Experience on hyperscale cloud (AWS, Azure, Google, Meta), advanced semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing programs.

  • LEED AP BD+C, CEA, or DBIA credential — differentiates on sustainability-driven and Design-Build pursuits

  • Familiarity with structural codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, AWS, OSHA, and client construction standards.
