Position and Salary The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Paralegal 3 in the Regional Services Division (RSD). This position can be located in any RSD office location, including Kennewick, Yakima, Wenatchee, Vancouver, Port Angeles, Everett and Bellingham, and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE). Paralegal 3 Salary Range (59): $69,348 - $93,288 annually The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The following stipends may apply based on position requirements:

Incumbents assigned to our Seattle office location receive an additional 5% King County Location Pay stipend.

Incumbents assigned to a position designated as requiring dual language skills will receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend.

Note: Effective July 1, 2025, Paralegal 3s assigned to work within King County receive Group C Assignment Pay in addition to their base pay. The Group C pay percentage received at this classification is a limited premium and applies at the Paralegal 2 classification.• King County Paralegal 3s – 5% Group C Assignment Pay

About the Regional Services Division Regional Services Division is made up of seven sections located in communities across Central Washington and Western Washington outside the Seattle-Tacoma-Olympia corridor. The division provides legal services to a variety of state agencies and institutions of higher education in the counties surrounding each of the seven locations. By sharing information and strategies across the division, the employees in Regional Services are able to provide excellent legal services through the efforts of employees who live in and play an active part in the communities they serve.
Duties and Essential Functions of a Paralegal 3 This position provides statewide coordination, oversight, training, and direct support for the management of the Regional Services Division’s public records. Additionally, the position has oversight and will help coordinate how the Division organizes, responds to and tracks discovery across the seven RSD Offices as well as being responsible for coordinating professional staff support for the RSD Appellate unit. This position also supervises a Paralegal 2 who performs related public records work and provides guidance, coordination and support to staff across the division. This position requires a high degree of organization, an ability to analyze facts, knowledge of the public records and discovery processes and experience training others. This recruitment announcement may be used to fill multiple open positions for the same classification, in addition to the position(s) listed in this announcement.

Combination of six years of experience* through:
- Paralegal certification
- Two-year paralegal degree
- Paralegal plus (or nine-month paralegal, post BA) certification,
and/or
- Paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney
OR
- Two years’ experience as a Paralegal 2 in Washington State Service.
*Examples of paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney:
- Preparing legal pleadings and legal correspondence
- Ensuring and verifying timely and proper service of legal documents
- Calculating, verifying, and calendaring critical events and other dates
- Managing case documents, files and exhibits
- Tracking and organizing discovery documents
- Researching legal issues and verifying legal citations and references for accuracy
Preferred Qualifications Discovery and Public Records: Expert level experience supporting an attorney(s) in propounding and responding to discovery. Examples include drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for admissions, requests for production, use of MFT for distribution, and the use of Everlaw. Expert level experience in locating responsive records, identifying and redacting confidential information, and the use of Everlaw.
