Pharmacy Technician

Summary

About the Position: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. The position is within A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center DIR of Clinical Support, Dept. of Pharmacy, Inpatient Pharmacy. The incumbent would work 10 - 8 hour morning or evening shifts Monday-Sunday; Occasional overnights may be required; Shifts would rotate at the commands discretion.

Duties

• Correctly interprets doctor’s orders.
• Selects the correct unit dose medication from profile for loading into the automated dispensing cabinet and/or into the patient specific bin.
• Makes required calculations and conversions to prepare strengths and doses of medications ordered.
• Answers routine questions from the facility staff regarding the scheduling and delivery of medications, referring questions requiring professional decisions and information to the pharmacist.
• Enters prescriptions into computer systems, reviews profile for allergies, drug/drug or drug/food interactions, and duplicate orders.
• Maintains adequate levels of working stock and alerts the appropriate individual of needs.
• Conducts final check on prescriptions that have been filled by other technicians prior to dispensing by the pharmacist.
• Checks delivered drug supplies for short dating, tampering, breakage, deterioration.
• Receives and processes orders for controlled substances from prescriptions, wards, clinics and pharmacy subsection.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes basic knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature; Characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals; Pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; and the Variety of procedures and techniques involved in the care, storage, repackaging, bulk compounding, and distribution of pharmaceuticals.

Education
