Job Description
We are seeking a Technical Project Manager for a 7-month contract to manage the implementation of integrated hardware and software solutions across multiple airport sites in the United States. This individual will own assigned sites from initial planning and site readiness through implementation, testing, customer acceptance, and transition to support.
Responsibilities will include building detailed project plans, coordinating technical dependencies, tracking costs and labor hours, supporting invoicing, managing risks and escalations, and maintaining project documentation in Jira, Quickbase, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
The ideal candidate has experience managing complex, multi-site technology implementations within government, airport, transportation, security, telecommunications, or another regulated environment. This person does not need to be a hands-on engineer but must understand how servers, networks, hardware, software, security, vendors, and site readiness affect successful delivery. This is a remote position with up to approximately six trips during the contract.
Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Project Management, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of technical project management experience delivering software, infrastructure, systems integration, hardware deployment, secure field operations, or customer-facing implementation projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage detailed project plans, schedules, dependencies, risks, issues, change logs, action trackers, acceptance criteria, and customer communications.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional technical teams, field teams, customer technical stakeholders, security teams, operations teams, and third-party vendors.
- Working understanding of software deployment, application configuration, networking fundamentals, servers/workstations, cameras/peripherals, cables, power, field installation, and secure operating environments.
- Ability to understand and manage technical dependencies related to OS image, software package, security scans, certificates/truststore, endpoint configuration, health/status messages, and interface testing.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills across technical, operational, and customer audiences.
- Ability to anticipate roadblocks, diagnose project and technical delivery problems, generate practical solutions, and escalate appropriately.
- Comfortable working in airport, government, secure, or regulated environments with access constraints, escort requirements, restricted installation windows, and formal approval processes.
- Ability and willingness to travel for site surveys, installation, testing, go-live, hypercare, customer meetings, and deployment escalations.
- PMP, PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, or equivalent project management certification.
- Experience with DHS, GOVERMENT PROGRAMS, TSA, airport operations, federal systems integrators, public-sector technology delivery, or secure government environments.
- Experience deploying biometric, identity, physical security, camera/video analytics, edge compute, networking, or hardware/software integrated systems.
- Familiarity with WebSocket/protobuf integration, device state management, health/status events, application logs, certificates, truststores, and secure network-contained operation.
- Experience working with site readiness checklists, technical hosting checklists, as-built documentation, operational readiness reviews, and transition-to-support handoffs.
- Experience managing field installation teams, hardware suppliers, OEM warranty/RMA processes, field service partners, and site spare strategies.
- Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, Teams, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent project governance and documentation tools.
- Track record of improving deployment repeatability, reducing rework, and driving continuous improvement across site-based delivery programs.
