Full job description

POSITION SUMMARY: During your internship, you will build real-world skills relevant to your field, gain professional experience to strengthen your resume, network with industry professionals, and explore career opportunities!

Learning opportunities include the following:

  1. Parts Dept
  • Using inventory and financial transactions associated with the parts department to ensure proper accounting.

  • Monitoring of sales objectives by category.

  • Reviewing department policies and procedures in conjunction with store management.

  1. Service Dept
  • Understanding and utilizing the process to charge service tickets, customer, internal and warranty and how those affect profitability.

  • Understanding and learning the scheduling and assignment of service work and how those records interrelate to items such as recovery rates.

  • Administration of warranty claim procedures on equipment sold.

  1. Sales
  • Determining how manufacturers’ terms, discounts, and special programming, delivery costs, valuations, and expected equipment arrival affect customer sales quotes.

  • Review of documentation associated with sales of wholegoods, and attachments, completion, and accuracy of those documents.

  • Gain understanding of the importance of customer relations and how that might affect companies’ profitability.

  1. Precision

a. Relationship of precision department to dealerships and customers when providing product knowledge related to the software and hardware on combines, tractors, planters, and sprayers electronic monitoring and application systems.

  1. Store Management
  • Gain an understanding of annual business planning, goals, and budget, as developed by the store and department managers.

  • Review and monitoring of store performance, comparing with budget and current business environment, suggesting adjustments, as necessary.

  • Providing guidance and training for department managers and sales teams.

  1. Corporate

a. Wholegoods

  • Understanding and utilization of manufacturer’s terms and conditions, discounts, special programs, and resources.

  • Determining how aforementioned items affect daily review and approval of deals through PowerEQ from store managers for all equipment.

  • Monitoring inventory listings on Birky’s website, reviewing details of listings, photos, and videos to assure accuracy and timeliness.

  • Participate in managing new and used equipment and ordering new short line wholegoods items.

b. Regional Parts/Service Administration

  • Daily review of department performance reports, tracking of repair order billings, KPI’s, and monthly management summary. Review findings with managers.

  • Review and develop daily action plans to reduce Work in Process (WIP) with service managers.

  • Attend formal parts and service meetings to review and document performance and requests.

  • Ability to get around the corporate office for various tasks.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to operate equipment or other power equipment as necessary.

  • Must meet health assessment requirements.

Interns can work at the administrative office or at one of our 19 Dealerships located in Illinois, Missouri, and Indiana!
