POSITION SUMMARY The K–12 English Language Arts (ELA) Coordinator provides districtwide coordination, technical expertise, and instructional leadership in support of the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the K-12 ELA curriculum and literacy program. The Coordinator supports alignment with Georgia academic standards and District priorities, promotes high-quality instructional practices, facilitates professional learning, and analyzes student performance data to inform instructional improvement. This position collaborates with school and district leaders to support the effective implementation of ELA and literacy initiatives. It provides guidance, resources, and technical assistance to strengthen teaching and learning across grade levels.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
- Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, English Language Arts, Literacy, or a related ?eld from an accredited college or university required.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
- GaPSC Certificate at Level 5 or higher in Educational Leadership required, or eligibility for appropriate certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
WORK EXPEREINCE:
- 5 years of successful K–12 classroom teaching experience required; experience teaching English Language Arts preferred
- 3 years of instructional leadership, curriculum leadership, or team leadership experience required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of K–12 English Language Arts curriculum, literacy development, instructional practices, assessment, and Georgia academic standards
- Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, professional learning, and evidence-based literacy practices
- Ability to analyze student achievement and instructional data to identify trends, evaluate effectiveness, and inform recommendations
- Ability to coordinate and support implementation of districtwide curriculum and instructional initiatives across diverse school settings
- Ability to provide technical assistance, coaching, and guidance to teachers, instructional staff, and school leaders
- Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities
- Ability to communicate complex instructional and data-related information clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to build collaborative relationships and influence stakeholders across schools and District departments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, learning management systems, data analysis tools, and other instructional technologies
- Ability to develop high-quality curriculum resources, professional learning materials, reports, presentations, and other instructional resources
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Coordinates the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of K–12 English Language Arts curriculum and instructional initiatives
- Develops and maintains standards-aligned curriculum resources, including scope and sequence documents, pacing guides, units of study, instructional resources, and formative assessments
- Supports alignment of ELA curriculum, instruction, and assessment with Georgia academic standards, District priorities, and student learning expectations
- Provides technical expertise and instructional guidance regarding evidence-based literacy practices to strengthen reading, writing, speaking, and listening instruction
- Develops and facilitates districtwide and school-based professional learning for administrators, teachers, and instructional staff to strengthen instructional practice and student achievement
- Provides technical assistance, coaching, and instructional support to schools to strengthen implementation of ELA curriculum and instructional practices
- Collaborates with school and District leaders to identify instructional needs and recommend resources, strategies, and professional learning opportunities
- Supports the implementation of District instructional initiatives that integrate ELA with interdisciplinary learning and instructional technology
- Analyzes state, district, and school assessment data to identify trends, evaluate program effectiveness, and develop recommendations for instructional strategies and interventions
- Supports the development and implementation of district benchmark and formative assessments and promotes the effective use of assessment results to inform instruction
- Monitors implementation and effectiveness of ELA initiatives and provides recommendations for continuous improvement
- Prepares reports, presentations, and data analyses to communicate findings and support instructional decision-making
- Coordinates the review, selection, and implementation of textbooks, digital resources, instructional materials, supplies, and technology supporting the English Language Arts program
- Coordinates with internal departments and school leaders to support the effective implementation of ELA resources and initiatives
- Assists with planning and monitoring budgets and resources associated with curriculum, professional learning, instructional materials, assessments, and program implementation.
- Maintains current curriculum resources, implementation guidance, and related documentation
- Collaborates with District and school leaders to identify instructional needs, resolve implementation challenges, and advance ELA and literacy priorities.
- Serves as a subject-matter resource for ELA curriculum, instruction, assessment, and literacy practices
- Builds collaborative relationships with school-based and District staff to support consistent implementation of ELA initiatives
- Communicates program expectations, resources, implementation guidance, and instructional recommendations to appropriate stakeholders
- Required to have prompt, regular attendance in person and be available to work on-site during regular business hours and as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator or their representative
PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Vision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods
- Hearing: Ability to tolerate exposure to noisy conditions
- Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communications, to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone or computer
- Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp, and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head
- Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 5 or more pounds on a frequent basis. Incumbent may be required to physically restrain parties involved in a conflict
- Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors
- Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records.
