Full job description

Job Summary

The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for maintaining quality standards by approving incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products and recording quality results. Responsible for checking the raw materials and parts that make up the finished goods and assemblies. The Mechanical Inspector works within a team of other Quality Control professionals. Work assignments are given by the Inspection Supervisor.

Essential Functions:

  • Inspects incoming materials by confirming specifications, conducts visual and measurement tests, rejects unacceptable materials.

  • Inspects in-process production by confirming specifications, conducts visual and measurement tests, communicates required adjustments to production supervisor.

  • Inspects finished products by confirming specifications, conducts visual and measurement tests, returns products for rework, confirms rework.

  • Uses a variety of methods to ensure that the product manufactured in-house, or purchased meets print specifications, Mil-Specs, quality standards, and AS9100 requirements.

  • Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs; inputs data into quality database.

  • Makes mathematical calculations to measure parts and compares the measurements to blueprints.

  • Verifies that purchased products from suppliers conform to company quality standards.

  • Approves first piece manufactured for production.

  • Checks various jobs in progress to ensure that machine settings have not changed or that the operator has not made any errors.

  • Keeps measurement equipment operating by following operating instructions, maintains calibration system, calls for repairs when necessary.

  • Contributes to improvement of inspection procedures and work instructions.

  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, or relevant vocational training preferred.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of Mechanical Inspector experience preferred, or equivalent proven skills and expertise.

  • Experience documenting first piece and first article inspection results IAW AS9102. Knowledge of Net-Inspect a plus.

  • Capable of reading and interpreting drawings and blueprints, Mil-Specs, and related documents.

  • Skilled in using various measuring equipment including micrometers, protractors, calipers, height gages, and optical comparators.

  • Knowledge of GD&T, preferred.

  • CMM and OGP experience, preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of shop math.

General Physical Requirements:

  • Standing, sitting, stooping, bending, grasping, holding, reaching, pushing and pulling are generally required to perform the functions of this position on a regular basis.

  • Ability to pass yearly vision tests for color and acuity, if required.

  • Ability to safely lift 50 pounds.

Salary Range: $25 to $30 per hour.

This estimated range represents a good faith projection of what we believe is a competitive compensation range for this position. Please understand that the offered salary will be determined based on factors such as the applicant's credentials, experiences, and the specific requirements of the role, as well as potential internal equity and external market considerations.
