About the Opportunity A growing power generation and energy infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support major construction projects in Abilene, TX. This is a highly hands-on, field-driven position working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary construction teams.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of industrial construction and can independently coordinate technical, scheduling, cost, documentation, and field activities. You do not need to come specifically from power generation or data center construction; strong backgrounds in midstream, oil & gas, heavy industrial, electrical/mechanical construction, renewables, or other mission-critical environments are highly relevant.

What You’ll Do

  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation
  • Create and submit RFIs and help resolve technical issues in the field
  • Identify out-of-scope work and assist with change order development and tracking
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and multiple construction disciplines
  • Support the Superintendent with daily field execution and work sequencing
  • Work closely with the Project Manager on project coordination and execution
  • Establish, maintain, and update project schedules and milestones
  • Interpret project schedules, including milestones, critical path, and schedule logic
  • Coordinate permits, approvals, utility requirements, and 811/municipality locate tickets
  • Track project progress against established milestones
  • Monitor project costs, change orders, and budget impacts
  • Assist with procurement and coordinate material/equipment deliveries
  • Create and track progress billings
  • Provide forecasting and variance reporting
  • Assist with contractor and vendor invoice approvals based on project progress
  • Participate in project meetings and identify potential risks and mitigation strategies

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of relevant industrial field construction experience in project engineering, field engineering, APM or similar required
  • Experience in industrial, energy, infrastructure, electrical/mechanical, heavy civil, or similar construction environments
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction and engineering drawings
  • Hands-on experience creating and submitting RFIs
  • Experience identifying and capturing change orders/out-of-scope work
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and field teams
  • Understanding of project schedules, milestones, critical path, and schedule logic
  • Strong progress and cost tracking experience
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced field environment
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Comfortable working closely with Project Managers and Superintendents
  • Procore experience is a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 is a plus, but P6 is not required
  • Degree is not required

Benefits:

  • Multiple medical plan options
  • Dental and vision insurance
  • Life and disability insurance
  • PTO is available with advance manager approval and is coordinated around project needs.
  • 7 Paid holidays
  • 401K

Why Join This Team This is an opportunity to take ownership of meaningful project responsibilities on large-scale power and infrastructure work. You’ll have direct exposure to field execution, project controls, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, costs, and technical problem-solving rather than being confined to an administrative project support role.

You’ll work alongside experienced Project Managers and Superintendents on a 100+ person project team, with the opportunity to expand your responsibilities and grow toward greater project ownership and eventually Project Management.

The environment is fast-paced, hands-on, and team-oriented, with leadership that values hardworking, accountable people who are willing to get into the field and help get the job done.

Please note: Qualified candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident; no sponsorship is available.
