Cellino Biotech, Inc. is an innovation- and value-driven, venture capital-backed biotechnology company that is pioneering a transformative platform to manufacture cell-based therapies. The company was founded by a team of interdisciplinary, entrepreneurial scientists and engineers with expertise in laser physics, biology, software development, optics, precision instrumentation, and business.
We are seeking a hands-on principal mechanical engineer to work with our R&D team to turn research concepts into functional designs, then shepherd them through prototyping into production. Key areas include laboratory consumables, liquid handling systems, and mechatronics. The ideal candidate has been the technical leader on complex projects, mentored team members and established the approach to mechanical engineering at a past company.
Candidates should supply a portfolio and be ready to present a shipping product where they were the primary technical contributor from prototype to production.
Responsibilities
- Own the mechanical development of products and subsystems from concept through prototyping, verification, design transfer, and production.
- Drive projects forward independently, identifying technical risks, resolving ambiguity, and escalating issues when appropriate.
- Coordinate mechanical development across internal teams, vendors, contract manufacturers, and global suppliers, and provide technical direction to junior engineers, technicians, consultants, and external development partners.
- Collaborate closely with R&D engineers and cell biologists to understand new product concepts, requirements, and designs for fluidic and mechatronic systems
- Implement design for manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure quality and efficiency in production
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and product development, with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience independently owning a complex mechanical product or subsystem from initial concept through production.
- Expert proficiency in 3D CAD software like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.
- Extensive hands-on experience with prototyping methods (3D printing, CNC, fabrication)
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (injection molding, casting, machining), design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA) principles, detailed tolerance analysis, and GD&T.
Nice-to-Have Skills and Background
- Understanding of fluid dynamics, motion control, and mechatronics
- Experience with microcontrollers, firmware, automation, and Python
- Experience with high-volume medical or biological plastics manufacturing
- Simulation and analysis experience (FEM, Comsol, Ansys)
