Job Description

Tissue Recovery Team Leader- Per Diem

Location : 4444 Bryant and Stratton Way, Williamsville, NY 14221. Must have a valid NYS driver’s license, arrive within 1 hour of a case call, and travel in company vehicle to area hospitals.

Schedule :

  • Full Per diem: minimum 12 on-call 12-hour shifts/month, or

  • Modified Per diem: at least 3 on-call shifts/week plus stipend and health insurance option.

  • Training requires at least 3 shifts/week.

  • Availability must include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Pay :

The pay rate for this non-exempt role is case-based, offering flexible scheduling and strong earning potential tied to availability and participation.

  • Recent average earnings for Team Leaders at this location ranged from $120.07/hour-$152.87/hr, averaging $130.63/hour. This is not a guaranteed hourly rate but a snapshot of historical data over the previous 6 months; compensation varies by case volume and Team Leader availability.

  • Office and training time pay is $16.00/hour; recoveries are paid per procedure, or piece rate, plus Team Leader Stipend.

  • Additional travel and case-related reimbursements may apply.

  • Modified per diem includes:

  • Weekly stipend plus 75% of case pay

  • Option for health insurance (“Full per diem” is not benefit- eligible)

Job Summary

Lead the recovery team through all recovery related activities. Recover musculoskeletal, ocular (when applicable), cardiovascular, skin, and other tissue as required. Responsible for suitability determination of donor, aseptic surgical tissue recovery, packaging at recovery and shipping post-recovery (if applicable). Complete donor charts following recovery.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Associate degree or higher in related field desired.

Experience:

  • Experience in healthcare/medical field, or one year of hospital experience in a clinical area, or one year eye banking experience, or one year tissue banking experience preferred.

  • Managerial or supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in anatomy and physiology strongly preferred.

  • Medical terminology and/or familiarity with medical diagnosis, medical record review strongly preferred.

  • Must be able to supervise, delegate, coach and motivate staff in a collaborative team environment.

  • Proficiency in data entry required.

  • Must be adaptable to change, detail oriented, and highly organized with the ability to think critically and multi-task while maintaining focus and accuracy through interruptions.

  • Must be self-motivated and reliable with a professional appearance and demeanor.

  • Must have a valid NYS Driver’s license and reliable transportation. Travel and On-Call required.

Required Physical Demands:

  • Continuous standing, over 65% of the time.

  • Frequent sitting, walking, bending, squatting, and kneeling.

  • Continuous lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling up to 10lbs. Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.

  • Continuous reaching forward and lateral. Occasional reaching overhead.

  • Continuously receiving detailed information through written, electronic, and oral communication.

  • Frequent clarity of vision at near and/or far distances.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Communicates organizational needs, manages workflow of staff, and provides guidance and support as needed.

  • Guides the recovery team and all recovery related activities at the recovery location of the donation. Report all case irregularities to management team.

  • Communicate with hospital staff, medical examiners, county coroner’s, funeral directors, and other internal/external entities as they pertain to case related activities in order to address and resolve any issues, concerns, or questions identified to facilitate the recovery of tissue donations in a timely manner.

  • Oversee and perform tissue and eye recovery activities from pre-recovery activities to recovery to packaging through shipping.

  • Perform a review of all available donor records (Med/Soc., Medical chart, etc.) and a physical assessment of the donor to determine the suitability of the donor for recovery.

  • Enter all necessary case related information into the donor electronic medical record system.

  • Ensure compliance with AATB, EBAA, State, Federal, and ConnectLife standards for eye and tissue recovery.

  • Ensure proper reconstruction of the donor following eye and tissue recovery.

  • Perform in office clinical related tasks as required (sterilization of instruments inventory and supply etc.).

  • Make a proactive effort to stay informed and up to date regarding policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Attend all required meetings and complete all required trainings timely.
