Manager, Maintenance Projects

Overview

The Manager, Maintenance Projects provides technical leadership and management support for plant maintenance, reliability, electrical systems, automation systems, fabrication, and equipment improvement activities. This position reports to the director of Engineering.

The Manager, Maintenance Projects focuses on improving equipment reliability, solving recurring technical problems, supporting major repairs and projects, and developing the technical capabilities of the maintenance organization. This position is regional and will support all element resources sites as prioritized by their Director. This requires some out of state travel approximately 25%. This position is a hands on, on the floor position where the expectation is plant floor work be 50% of the time worked. This position can be home based in any Element facility.

Responsibilities

Equipment Reliability & Improvement

• Identify recurring equipment problems and develop permanent corrective solutions.

• Lead or participate in root-cause analysis of significant equipment failures.

• Evaluate equipment performance and recommend reliability improvements.

• Assist in developing preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.

• Review maintenance history to identify repetitive failures and improvement opportunities.

• Work with Maintenance, Engineering, and Production to improve equipment availability and maintainability.

• Recommend equipment modifications, replacements, and upgrades when appropriate.

Technical Maintenance Support

• Serve as a technical resource for difficult or unusual maintenance problems.

• Provide advanced troubleshooting support for electrical and mechanical equipment.

• Assist maintenance personnel with troubleshooting motors, VFDs, MCCs, instrumentation, controls, and other industrial electrical systems.

• Support troubleshooting of PLC-controlled equipment in coordination with Engineering or Controls personnel.

• Review electrical and mechanical drawings, manuals, and technical documentation.

• Assist in determining repair methods and appropriate replacement components.

Fabrication & Mechanical Improvements

• Develop practical solutions for equipment modifications and plant improvements.

• Provide technical direction for welding and fabrication projects.

• Assist with field measurements, layouts, equipment modifications, structural repairs, guarding, platforms, chutes, ductwork, and other plant fabrication projects.

• Determine when work can effectively be completed internally versus requiring outside engineering, fabrication, or contractor support.

• Help establish fabrication and repair standards that improve equipment reliability and safety.

Projects & Contractor Management

• Manage selected maintenance and plant improvement projects from concept through completion.

• Develop scopes of work and obtain contractor or vendor proposals.

• Coordinate technical discussions with equipment manufacturers and contractors.

• Review proposed equipment and repair solutions.

• Assist with project cost estimates and budgets.

• Coordinate installation and commissioning activities.

• Verify completed work meets plant expectations and applicable standards.

• Maintain project documentation and communicate project status to plant leadership.

Maintenance Systems & Standards

• Help develop equipment standards and preferred components for the facility.

• Improve maintenance documentation, drawings, equipment records, and troubleshooting information.

• Assist with development of critical spare-parts lists.

• Help improve preventive maintenance procedures and inspection standards.

• Identify opportunities to improve maintenance efficiency and reduce emergency repairs.

• Support development of equipment specifications for new installations and replacements.

Employee Development

• Serve as a technical mentor for maintenance personnel.

• Help develop electrical, troubleshooting, welding, fabrication, and mechanical skills within the maintenance department.

• Provide technical training when appropriate.

• Help identify skill gaps and recommend training or development opportunities.

• Encourage technicians to troubleshoot problems systematically rather than relying on temporary repairs.

Safety

• Promote safe maintenance and engineering practices.

• Support Lockout/Tagout, electrical safety, hot-work, confined-space, fall-protection, and other applicable safety programs.

• Incorporate safety considerations into equipment modifications and repair designs.

• Identify equipment conditions that create safety or reliability risks and develop corrective actions.

• Ensure projects and equipment modifications comply with applicable plant standards and regulatory requirements.

Management Responsibilities

• The Manager, Maintenance Projects is expected to operate as a member of plant management and participate in:

• Capital and maintenance project planning

• Maintenance and reliability strategy

• Equipment replacement decisions

• Contractor selection and management

• Maintenance budgeting and cost evaluation

• Plant improvement planning

• Major outage and shutdown planning

• Equipment failure investigations

• Development of maintenance standards and procedures

Qualifications

• Extensive industrial maintenance experience.

• Strong Industrial electrical troubleshooting skills.

• Qualified industrial electrician

• Strong welding and fabrication background.

• Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.

• Familiarity with industrial controls, motors, VFDs, instrumentation, and

• PLC-controlled equipment.

• Demonstrated ability to identify practical solutions to equipment problems.

• Ability to plan and manage technical projects.

• Strong communication and organizational skills.

• Demonstrated leadership ability or potential to develop into a management position.

• Previous management experience is preferred but not required.

Environment

This position is primarily performed in an office environment and requires regular onsite attendance. The role also requires frequence presence in manufacturing and production areas. While on the manufacturing floor, employees may be exposed to moving machinery, noise, dust, fumes, varying temperatures, and other industrial conditions. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in designated areas.

Physical Demands

You must be able to see, hear and speak; able to sit, stand for at least two hours at a time, sit, bend, crawl, squat, kneel and climb able to use both arms and hands to use a computer and peripherals and lift 40 pounds from floor level, able to wear respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, able to climb stairs.

Travel

• Frequent travel to support different sites will be required.
