Summary
About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Duties
- You will instruct, assess, and support Introduction to the Army Profession, Capstone Officer Development, and the Cadet Character Education Program (CCEP).
- Teach undergraduate courses including at a minimum any courses facilitated by SCPME including courses regarding Officership, the Army Profession, and the Army Ethic.
- Lead expert design, integration, and assessment of character development initiative supporting the United States Corps of Cadets (USCC).
- Provides strategic direction for cadet character education to ensure all initiatives align with the academy's framework for developing leaders of character and its broader character development strategy.
- Coordinates with academy programs and partners to integrate character development into daily cadet education, leader development, and institutional practices.
- Guide our educators, staff, and military leaders in fostering strong character development by modeling leadership, providing dedicated coaching, and leading meaningful discussions.
- Leads curriculum design and program evaluation to measure the impact of character development initiatives across the institution.
Qualifications
Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Academic Accomplishment (Ph.D. preferred) in Psychology, Philosophy, Ethics, Leadership, Organizational Studies, Adult Education, History, Leadership, Sociology or a closely related field preferred. 2) Ability to teach in-person at the college level. 3) Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with leaders in an organization, building effective relationships, conducting workshops, committees, and conferences designed to promote the intellectual, social, and physical welfare of students; and 4) Scholarship and stewardship responsibilities of profession. 5) Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, assessment, and integration across interdisciplinary programs.

This is a Career Program (CP) 31 - Education Services position. You may claim military spouse preference (MSP). Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. This position is not eligible for regular, and recurring telework. This position is eligible for situational telework only, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework". Situational telework is approved on a case-by-case basis, where the hours worked were not part of a previously approved, ongoing, and regular telework schedule. Situational telework is sometimes also referred to as episodic, intermittent, unscheduled, or ad-hoc telework.
