The Senior Accountant performs general accounting activities, including the preparation, maintenance and reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial statements such as balance sheets, profit-and-loss statements and capital expenditure schedules. Conducts or assists in the documentation of accounting projects. The Senior Accountant work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. This Role reports to the Associate Director General Accounting.

What This Senior Accountant Will Do

  • Prepare, record, analyze, and report accounting transactions while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records.

  • Maintain compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Support financial planning activities, including forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis.

  • Analyze financial results and explain budget-to-actual variances to support business decision-making.

  • Prepare statutory accounts, financial statements, and other financial reports.

  • Identify and resolve accounting issues that require evaluation of complex financial data and multiple variables.

  • Lead or support accounting projects and process improvement initiatives.

  • Recommend and implement technical accounting approaches for assigned projects and workstreams.

  • Influence departmental strategies and contribute financial insights to business partners and leadership.

  • Manage priorities independently, exercising sound judgment with minimal supervision.

  • Develop objectives, determine appropriate methodologies, and drive assignments through completion.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to improve financial reporting, controls, and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • 5+ years of experience in an accounting or finance role.

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using Power Platform tools such as Power BI, Power Automate, or Power Apps.

  • Leadership experience with managing people, projects or processes.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with close attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently with limited direction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration

  • Certified Public Accountant license

  • Prior SQL, Power Query, VBA, or other coding/automation experience

  • Experience in the health insurance industry

  • Month-end close experience

Additional Information

  • Location: Louisville, KY preferred.

  • Workstyle: Hybrid. Louisville-area associates are expected to work onsite one day per week.

  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. EST.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$78,400 - $107,800 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
