Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented accounting specialist to support retail inventory accounting operations for an agriculture-focused organization in Loveland, Colorado. This Long-term Contract position offers the opportunity to partner with field and finance teams to strengthen reporting accuracy, maintain inventory integrity, and support sound financial controls. The role is well suited to someone who enjoys analytical work, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on involvement in inventory-related accounting processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Review daily gross margin and inventory activity for an assigned region and identify unusual trends or discrepancies.

  • Partner with branch leaders and local teams to improve the accuracy of margin reporting and inventory transaction records.

  • Investigate inventory movements and margin irregularities in collaboration with regional finance staff and recommend appropriate follow-up actions.

  • Prepare and complete recurring internal reports that support compliance and reinforce inventory control procedures.

  • Evaluate inventory adjustment requests submitted by branch locations and confirm that entries are reasonable and properly supported.

  • Support division teams with consignment inventory tracking, reporting, and issue resolution as needed.

  • Participate in annual physical inventory activities, including count coordination, reconciliation of results, and documentation of variances.

  • Perform core accounting tasks such as journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and review of transaction-level activity.

  • Contribute to special assignments and provide additional accounting support requested by inventory or operations accounting leadership.

  • Travel on a limited basis for branch visits, regional meetings, and inventory count or recount activities.

Requirements • Experience in accounting, inventory accounting, or financial analysis within a retail, operations, or related business environment.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to work effectively with large data sets and detailed reports.

  • Hands-on knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial reporting practices.

  • Ability to research exceptions, assess transaction validity, and resolve issues with accuracy and sound judgment.

  • Comfortable working across multiple business functions and building effective relationships with branch and finance teams.

  • Familiarity with internal controls and review procedures related to inventory transactions and operational accounting.

  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP R/3 or similar accounting platforms is preferred.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally, approximately 5%, for meetings, site visits, and physical inventory support.
