The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of the Secretary has a vacancy. As a Criminal Investigator with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, you serve on the front line of protecting the state’s environment. You lead advanced investigations into criminal violations, gather intelligence, conduct surveillance, and uncover activities that threaten Louisiana’s air, water, and land. Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work; OR

Twelve hours in law enforcement or a criminal justice field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here. Job Duties:

1. Investigates violations of state criminal laws enforced by the department through statute.
2. Gathers evidence, prepares warrants, and effects arrests.
3. Locates and interviews witnesses and testifies in court.
4. Conducts undercover operations, assumes undercover roles, and conducts physical and technical surveillance; makes physical arrests and transports fugitives.
5. Prepares necessary reports on investigations.

Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment, job appointment (a temporary appointment not to exceed four years), or promotion of permanent classified employee. If the position is filled as a job appointment, it could be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available.
