Job Overview

The University of Dubuque is a growing faith-based University that is seeking a Full-time Faculty in the Physician Assistant Program for January 2027.

Position Summary:

This is a university faculty position with academic rank determined by the appointee's academic credentials and professional experience. The faculty member's primary responsibilities include developing and delivering evidence-based, face-to-face instruction in the basic medical and clinical sciences within their areas of expertise. Using a variety of instructional methods, the faculty member provides classroom lectures and clinical skills instruction, assists with laboratory teaching and demonstrations, evaluates student learning and performance, and advises students.

Primary Responsibilities:

Mission

Engage fully with the University's mission through excellence in teaching and advising, ongoing scholarship and professional development, and active service to the campus and broader community

Teaching and Advising

  • Maintain a full-time credit load in collaboration with the department and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA)

  • Participate in regular assessment and evaluation to foster continued pedagogical growth

  • Deliver relevant and current curriculum using a variety of teaching methods and standardized tools that accurately reflect effectiveness of course content

  • Be an active and present member of the campus community by supporting students outside of the classroom during regularly scheduled office hours

  • Advise and mentor students and communicate early with any student in danger of failure or in need of individual counseling

Scholarship and Professional Development

  • Actively participate in academic and clinical scholarship, including but not limited to obtaining grant funding, research, article submissions, presentations, publications, peer review, and/or monitoring student research

  • Build and maintain a professional portfolio for advancement in rank and tenure

  • Maintain an active clinical practice with an average of 6 hours per week

  • Undertake the necessary steps to stay certified or licensed in the discipline as expected by outside accreditation standards and/or best practices

Service

  • Participate in the ongoing assessment of the curricular and administrative aspects of the program through departmental meetings and committees

  • Serve on and contribute to academic and/or University-wide committees

  • Assist in program accreditation requirements and activities

  • Represent the University in professional associations, conferences, or community partnerships related to the faculty member's field

  • Other duties as assigned by the VPAA's office or department head in support of the University's Mission

  • Provide service to the program, university, PA profession, and community, as assigned by the Program Director and/or Office of Academic Affairs

Position Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate expertise in the academic discipline being taught through completed coursework or qualified experience

  • Develop and use teaching methods that engage students and help them learn

  • Communicate and collaborate clearly and effectively with students, staff, and faculty members

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments and maintain an active gradebook

  • Adapt to changes in the educational landscape, such as new technologies and educational standards

  • Practice professional and collegial behavior, cultural competency, and inclusive approaches in all circumstances

Qualifications:

  • Graduate Degree in a healthcare-related area (PA-C, MD, DO)

  • PAs must hold current NCCPA certification, a Master's Degree, and be eligible for licensure in the state of Iowa

  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience is required

  • Prior teaching in a PA program and prior precepting experience is preferred
