Graphic Designer (PSS3)
Division: Marketing & Communication
Reports to: Art Director
Position Summary
The Graphic Designer will serve as a key member of a high-performing, high-volume design team, and play a critical role in visually communicating Rowan University’s brand, mission, and strategic priorities to a wide range of audiences including prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners. Working under the guidance of Rowan’s Art Director and collaboratively with fellow graphic designers, this individual will support the execution of integrated marketing campaigns and institutional initiatives through compelling visual content across all creative media.
The position will offer hands-on experience across multiple facets of higher education marketing, including recruitment campaigns, social media content, event promotion, academic program materials, and institutional storytelling, among others. In addition, the Graphic Designer will have the opportunity to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging, and on-brand visual solutions while developing professional skills in typography, layout, branding, and digital design.
Success in this role requires a strong foundational understanding of graphic design principles, a collaborative mindset, and a willingness to learn and adapt within a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate is curious, proactive, and motivated to grow design expertise while contributing to a mission-driven organization. This role is an exciting opportunity for an emerging design professional to contribute to a highly collaborative, fast-paced creative team supporting Rowan, the fastest-growing public research university in the Northeast (The Chronicle of Higher Education Almanac 2025).
Key Responsibilities

Design compelling visual assets for a range of channels, including print (e.g. posters, flyers, brochures, signage), web, social media, and email, among others.

Assist in maintaining and applying Rowan University’s brand standards across all projects.

Collaborate with writers, marketers, project managers, and campus partners to concept and execute creative campaigns.

Prepare production-ready files and coordinate with vendors or internal teams for printing and publishing.

Support photo selection, basic image editing, and asset management.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality.

Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute innovative design ideas.

Work as assigned by manager.
Qualifications
Required
-
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field.

Two (2) years of professional graphic design experience, including internships, freelance work, or comparable design experience.

Portfolio demonstrating strong design fundamentals (typography, layout, color theory, and composition).

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).

Working knowledge of digital design best practices (social media, web, responsive design).

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Preferred
-
Experience working within brand guidelines or for institutional clients.

Experience with Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems.

Familiarity with project management platforms (e.g. Wrike, ClickUp, Asana, Monday.com)

Understanding of accessibility standards (ADA compliance) in digital design.

Familiarity with motion graphics tools (e.g., After Effects) or basic animation.

Salary & Benefits:
-
In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 21 ($66,067 to $75,985), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors.

For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4A:3-4.9 & 4.10).

For eligible employees, benefits include: comprehensive NJ State health, dental and retirement benefits, extensive accrued time off/paid holidays, and tuition reimbursement for employee, spouse, and dependents to attend Rowan University, Glassboro. (Tuition reimbursement will apply to undergraduate degrees only for spouse and dependents).
