Assistant Graphic Designer (Television Media Design Specialist, Level 1) - Part-Time
GENERAL DUTIES
Under general supervision, employees in this class of positions serve in titles, such as Camera Operator, Photographer, Lighting Operator, Teleprompter Operator, Stage Technician, Video Graphic Artist and Makeup Artist, or Art Director, Graphics Director, Creative Director and Show Director. They perform all of the creative and technical aspects of delivering editorial broadcast material on the air. This involves the capturing and presentation of the content through filming, lighting, sound, graphic design, music, directing, studio engineering, make up, set up and use of teleprompter, stage-managing, and set design and building. Responsibilities include the operation of all equipment necessary for the production of the broadcast, either in part or in whole.
There are two assignment levels in this class of positions. This specification describes typical duties of these assignments; related duties are performed as needed.

CUNY TV is New York City’s leading public educational channel, broadcasting 24/7 from the City University of New York. Since 1985, CUNY TV has been dedicated to extending CUNY’s academic mission, connecting and uplifting the diverse experiences of New Yorkers through meaningful stories and lifelong learning opportunities. Reaching 7.3 million households, CUNY TV offers a wide range of programming, including locally produced shows, documentaries, lectures, and artistic performances. Available on various channels across the five boroughs and the CUNY TV App, CUNY TV has garnered 41 New York Emmy® Awards and numerous other industry honors.
Reporting to the Director of Operations, with a secondary reporting line to the Head Graphics Designer for daily task allocation, the Assistant Graphic Designer works as part of a team and under supervision to create and deliver graphics for CUNY TV’s in-house programming and digital platforms.
Key duties include but are not limited to the following:

Assist with designing and implementing graphic design packages for in-house programming and secondarily, for marketing campaigns.

Create video graphic art and animations.
-
Use broadcast production software and related hardware to create, edit, revise, and deliver graphic content for television and digital platforms.

Prepare and operate on-air graphics and video roll-ins for live and live-to-tape studio and field productions.

Assist with the production of design deliverables and with quality control of final products.

Under supervision, support team leaders and program producers in implementing design concepts.

Assist with implementing the visual style and creative look of programs, consistent with production objectives and artistic direction.

Perform related duties as needed.
NOTES:
-
Until further notice, this role requires 100% on-site presence.
-
This is a part-time position; the selected hire may work up to a maximum of 32 hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Assignment Level 1: Requires a high school diploma or GED, and 2 years of full-time, satisfactory directly related experience in a television broadcast environment, or
Associate Degree or 60 college credits, and 1 year of experience, or
Baccalaureate Degree.
Assignment Level 2: Requires a high school diploma or GED, and 6 years of experience, or
Associate Degree or 60 college credits, and 5 years of experience, or
Baccalaureate Degree and 4 years of experience, or
Master’s Degree and 3 years of experience.
Important Notes: All qualifying experience must be from a television broadcast environment, full-time, or full-time equivalent, and in a position where the duties are directly related to those of Television Media Design Specialist.
College education must be in a directly related field of study, from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four-year college or university.
Some positions in either Assignment Level may require a current, valid Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred:
-
Two or more years of creative experience with a primary focus on motion design.
-
Strong design skills and excellent attention to detail.
-
Proficiency with Adobe After Effects and Adobe Creative Cloud.
-
3D animation skills (Cinema 4D, Blender, Maya) a plus.
-
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
COMPENSATION
New Hire Minimum - $31.93/hr
Incumbent Minimum - $36.11/hr
