Materials Associate
(Contract-to-hire)
Sigma Design has collaborated with a leading defense technology company seeking an experienced Materials Associate to join their facility in Costa Mesa, CA. This company specializes in autonomous systems and next-generation defense technologies. This position is contract to hire and full -time onsite.

$24.00 an hour
Primary Function:
The Materials Associate is responsible for maintaining accurate physical and system inventory to support production and distribution operations. This role focuses on inventory control, cycle counting, inventory transactions, material tracking, and reconciliation while also supporting shipping, receiving, material movement, and warehouse operations.
Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:

Perform cycle counts, physical inventories, and other inventory control activities with a strong focus on inventory accuracy

Reconcile physical inventory to ERP/WMS system records and identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies
-
Accurately perform and document inventory transactions, including material receipts, issues, transfers, adjustments, and system decrements
-
Maintain accurate inventory records by identifying, labeling, locating, and recording materials, parts, and supplies
-
Understand the relationship between physical material movement and corresponding ERP/WMS transactions to ensure inventory remains accurate throughout the material lifecycle
-
Investigate inventory discrepancies and work with production, shipping, purchasing, and other teams to determine root causes and implement appropriate corrections
-
Track materials using lot, serial, batch, part number, and other applicable identification methods
-
Accurately maintain inventory, shipping, receiving, and material movement records using ERP, WMS, and other inventory control systems
-
Coordinate or perform material transfers between company locations and ensure corresponding system transactions are completed accurately
-
Expedite the movement of materials, parts, and assemblies within and between departments in accordance with production and shipping schedules
-
Receive, inspect, identify, and properly store incoming materials and supplies
-
Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment to safely move materials and products
-
Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient warehouse and material storage environment
-
Follow established procedures for the handling, packaging, and transportation of materials, including hazardous materials when applicable
-
Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages, discrepancies, damaged materials, or other inventory concerns to the appropriate teams
-
Provide responsive customer service to internal teams and support material needs in a timely manner
-
Adapt to changing priorities, schedules, and business needs in a fast-paced production environment

Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences
Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
-
High school diploma or equivalent required
-
Minimum of 2 years of experience in inventory control, materials management, warehouse operations, or an equivalent role preferred
-
Demonstrated experience performing inventory transactions, cycle counts, physical inventory adjustments, and inventory reconciliation strongly preferred
-
Hands-on experience using ERP, WMS, or inventory control systems to receive, issue, transfer, adjust, and track materials strongly preferred
-
Ability to understand and accurately execute the system transactions associated with physical movement of materials
-
Experience identifying and resolving discrepancies between physical inventory and system records preferred
-
Experience with lot, serial, and/or batch tracking preferred
-
Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment preferred
-
Experience working in the aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or other highly regulated industry preferred
-
Experience packaging and handling hazardous materials or shipments preferred.
-
Ability to work 1st or 2nd shift and overtime as required based on business needs.

Valid driver’s license required.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office or similar business software preferred

Strong inventory management, analytical, and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
-
Strong customer service, communication, and teamwork skills
-
Ability to investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and work collaboratively to resolve inventory issues
-
Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced production environment
-
Ability to safely and effectively handle materials and operate warehouse equipment
-
Ability to work onsite and travel between company locations as needed
-
Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance preferred
-
Active or recent U.S. security clearance preferred
-
U.S. citizenship is required for this position due to applicable government contract and/or regulatory requirements
-
Background - Pass a post-offer background verification
Work Environment
Standard warehouse/production environment which requires regular sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and moving about the facility. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Temperature of work area may be affected by outside temperatures.
