Job Description
The Registered Pharmacy Technician provides high-quality customer service and technical support within a fast-paced clinic pharmacy. This role focuses on responding to inbound and outbound patient calls, processing prescriptions and referrals, coordinating deliveries, and ensuring accurate patient records and insurance verification. The technician supports pharmacological services, assists with prior authorizations and billing, and serves as a key point of contact for patients, caregivers, referral sources, and other healthcare providers.
Responsibilities

Respond to inbound and outbound calls from patients, caregivers, and referral sources, delivering a high level of customer service while maximizing productivity.

Answer questions related to pharmacy services, medication delivery, refill procedures, and general pharmacy assistance.

Handle a wide variety of customer inquiries regarding products, services, and timeliness of receipt of medications, and help resolve customer complaints in a professional manner.

Receive and process new pharmacy referrals, verify insurance coverage, and facilitate prior authorization requests as needed.

Accurately transcribe prescriptions and perform order entry to ensure correct medication, dosage, and day supply.

Generate and manage reports that follow the cycle fill calendar to send and follow up on refill requests via e-prescribe, facsimile, or phone.

Coordinate medication delivery logistics and serve as the first point of contact for service-related inquiries and associated needs.

Support pharmacological services by editing and verifying fill lists, including insurance information, last fill date, billing, and toting.

Align (short fill) patient medications according to the cycle fill calendar to maintain synchronization of therapy.

Update patient information in the pharmacy system as necessary to ensure accurate and complete records.

Coordinate the initiation of care with patients or caregivers, referral sources, and other providers involved in patient care.

Enter patient information into the patient record accurately and completely, maintaining all records in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.

Assist with labeling, inventory-related tasks, and fulfillment processes to support overall pharmacy operations.

Utilize Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Access, to manage data, reports, and documentation.

Collaborate with pharmacists and other technicians as part of a cohesive team to meet weekly prescription volume and service goals.

Demonstrate punctuality, organization, and effective time management to handle a high volume of prescriptions and calls.

Apply problem-solving skills to address insurance, billing, prior authorization, and prescription-related issues efficiently.
Essential Skills

High School Diploma or GED.
-
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential.
-
Valid Florida Pharmacy Technician License.
-
Completion of a board-approved pharmacy technician training program.

1+ years of experience in a medical insurance, billing, or customer service environment.

Strong knowledge of medication brands, generics, and dosing, including day supply calculations.

Proficiency in pharmacy data entry, order entry, labeling, and fulfillment processes.

Experience with insurance verification and prior authorization workflows.

Advanced skill in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel and Access.

Strong customer service orientation with the ability to manage inbound and outbound calls professionally.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

Ability to maintain accurate, complete patient records in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.

Work Environment
This role is 100% onsite in a clinic pharmacy environment that is fast-paced and high volume, processing approximately 1,500 prescriptions per week as a team. You will work alongside a close-knit staff of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists, with coverage including technicians and a PharmD on Saturdays. The typical schedule is Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., plus rotating Saturdays as part of the team’s coverage. The culture emphasizes professionalism, collaboration, and strong customer service, with a fun, supportive atmosphere. Lunch is often catered by representatives and vendors, providing frequent free meals for the team. You will use pharmacy systems, e-prescribing tools, facsimile, phone communication, and Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Access) in your daily work, and you will be expected to adhere to clinic-appropriate attire suitable for a professional pharmacy setting.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oakland Park, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
