Customs & Trade Compliance SpecialistAbout the Role

We are seeking a Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist to support our import/export operations and ensure compliance with U.S. and international trade regulations. This role will work closely with logistics, purchasing, finance, customer service, and sales teams to manage customs activities, reduce risk, and support efficient global trade operations.

Key Responsibilities

Import & Customs Compliance

  • Classify products, materials, and components using Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes.

  • Maintain accurate classification and country-of-origin records.

  • Review customs entries, invoices, and import documentation for accuracy.

  • Work with customs brokers and freight forwarders to ensure compliance.

  • Research and resolve customs-related issues and inquiries.

  • Monitor changes in tariffs and trade regulations.

  • Identify duty savings opportunities while maintaining compliance.

  • Support customs audits and maintain compliance documentation.

Export Compliance

  • Assist with export compliance activities for international shipments.

  • Review export documentation and licensing requirements.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve export-related issues.

Trade Programs & Duty Management

  • Support USMCA and other trade preference programs.

  • Help identify opportunities for duty reduction and tariff savings.

  • Monitor duty exposure and communicate impacts to leadership.

  • Partner with Finance and Logistics teams on trade-related cost analysis.

Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Maintain trade compliance procedures and work instructions.

  • Review classifications and trade transactions for accuracy.

  • Develop internal controls to reduce compliance risk.

  • Train employees on trade compliance requirements and best practices.

  • Stay informed on changing import/export regulations and communicate updates.

  • Identify risks and recommend corrective actions.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of experience in customs compliance, import/export, or international trade.

  • Strong knowledge of HTS classification and U.S. Customs regulations.

  • Understanding of country-of-origin requirements, customs valuation, and import documentation.

  • Working knowledge of U.S. export regulations.

  • Experience working with customs brokers and freight forwarders.

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across departments.

Preferred

  • Experience in manufacturing, automotive, or electronics industries.

  • Knowledge of duty drawback programs and tariff mitigation strategies.

  • Experience with USMCA and other trade programs.

  • Familiarity with ACE, customs broker systems, and ERP systems.

  • Experience responding to CBP inquiries.

  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) certification.

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Logistics, or a related field.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sparta, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $52.88/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
