This Agricultural Regulatory Specialist I position is in our Office of Consumer and Environmental Protection, Weights and Measures Branch.

The position will have the following duties:

• Learns to conduct inspections on gas pumps, small scales, and industrial scales using proper National Institute of Standards and Technology Examination Procedure Outlines or Department standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with National Institute of Standards and Technology Handbook 44 and state law.

• Learns to evaluate package labeling and net contents using National Institute of Standards and Technology Handbooks 130 and 133 to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.

• Learns to perform Price Verification Inspections following National Institute of Standards and Technology Handbook 130 Examination Procedure for Price Verification.

• Learns to perform Teen and Tobacco compliance checks aimed at preventing underage sale of tobacco and vapor products.

• Learns to obtain motor fuel samples using ASTM (America Society for Testing and Materials) International Procedure, for analysis to assure fuel meets applicable state and federal standards.

• Maintains all inspection and information technology equipment in accordance with department policy. Ensures vehicle and equipment is serviced and maintained in operating condition.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:NONE

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:Experience in agriculture, inspection, quality control, regulatory, chemical application or application or inspection of pesticides or restricted chemicals, or a related field will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Typical working conditions will require travel to such places as stockyards, farms, businesses, and amusement parks. Has close contact with livestock animals in such areas as stockyards, barns and/or barnyards.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
