Job Title: Respiratory Therapist Assistant

Department: Respiratory Services

Location: St. Lawrence Hospital – Massena Hospital Main, 1 Hospital Drive, Massena, NY 13662

Hours Per Week: 40

Schedule: 8-hour shifts, 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. , No weekend or on-call

SUMMARY:

Duties include scheduling, registration, performance improvement, scanning and filing, billing, ordering and stocking supplies. Staff must be flexible with their schedule and may be required to work variable hours or locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive orders and schedule appropriate test with patients.

  • Assemble patient information packages and send information to patients.

  • Register patient in electronic medical record system and verify correct insurance information using Emdeon system or telephone verification for Sleep Lab.

  • Establish appropriate information for chart and assemble chart.

  • Keep filing system and scan and file finished charts in appropriate manner.

  • Retrieve medical records as needed.

  • Ensure correct information on reports and maintain proper communication with Medical Director and Respiratory Services director.

  • Order stock and maintain adequate supplies for department.

  • Assist Respiratory director to ensure continuity of care for patients.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Six months’ experience in the medical field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Computer courses

  • Electronic Medical Record and Medical Terminology experience

  • High School Diploma/Equivalent

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.

For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements.

PAY RANGE:

$18.64 - $28.23

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
