Full job description

Mission Statement

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and serve all meals for residents and program participants.

  • Maintain a commercial kitchen in compliance with state health and safety regulations.

  • Safely operate and maintain all kitchen equipment.

  • Assist with establishing a 30-day menu for meal programs.

  • Assist with ordering and receiving supplies from donors and vendors.

  • Regularly take inventory of all food service and kitchen supplies.

  • Store all food items effectively and monitor for quality.

  • Responsible for cleanliness of kitchen, food pantry, and adjoining spaces which Kitchen Staff utilize.

  • Ensure all facility supplies are properly stored at the end of the shifts so that the next activity can be conducted promptly and effectively.

  • Assist with organization and training of regular volunteers to support meal programs or special events.

  • Make scheduled pick-up/deliveries of items.

  • Maintain vehicles in safe operating condition and keep maintenance logs up to date.

  • Maintain confidentiality and social service code of ethics.

  • Maintain safe and sacred boundaries with program participants and community partners.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned related to your scope of work.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to speak, sit, walk, stand, bend, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent basis; to grasp, reach, handle, finger, push or pull objects

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., or more with assistance.

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in daylight, darkness, or in inclement weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a current Food Handlers Card or be willing to complete certification upon hire.

  • Completion of a High School Level Education or GED

  • A minimum of one year working in a commercial kitchen or within the food service industry.

  • Ability to drive and maintain a valid Class C California Driver’s License, pass a TSA Driving Test, and maintain a clean

  • Must be able to pass a complete and satisfactory background

  • Current CPR Certificate and First Aide Certificate preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Experience working with individuals who are experiencing homelessness.

  • Experience working with people at varying stages of recovery from substance abuse and different levels of metal health.

  • Experience operating general office equipment to include computers.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs preferred.

  • Willing and able to maintain confidential information in accordance with Salvation Army and industry standards.

  • Completion of Decision Driving, PTM & Sexual harassment Trainings within 30 days of hire.

  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Ability to email, fax, operate copy/print/scan machine.

  • Ability to work harmoniously and professionally with Officers, supervisors, coworkers, residents, and the public.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • High ethics and integrity as per Social Service Code of ethics.
