Summary

This position performs the accounting entries and reconciliations required for our Rental Accounting department. It is your responsibility to monitor the activity throughout the month of your accounts to ensure that the balance at the end of the month is accurate with little to no reconciling items. Attention to detail and multitasking are essential for this role. You are responsible for reconciliations such as rental assets, prepaids, commissions, rebates, intercompany transfers, earned not billed and billed not earned, etc. (This position does not have the primary responsibility for posting rental additions, rental sales, nor buyout pricing. This position also does not perform the operational function of putting units on and off rent.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reconcile rental asset activity on a regular basis to ensure that all activity is accurate and complete and any intercompany profit is appropriately eliminated.

  • Analyze account balances, prepare reconciliations, and propose adjusting entries, as needed, to ensure proper application of US GAAP.

  • Apply company procedures to calculate rental commissions to be paid as well as accrue for rental commissions not yet owed.

  • Propose and post amortization journal entries relating to prepaids that affect the rental fleet.

  • Perform daily reconciliations of high-volume intercompany accounts and provide feedback to team members to correct any reconciling items.

  • Review closed work orders to determine if they qualify for capitalization and post any necessary journal entries.

  • Skillfully use computerized accounting and financial management systems.

  • Prepare journal entries throughout the month and assist with monthly close.

  • Identify problem areas or situations, evaluate root cause(s), and take appropriate action to resolve issues.

  • Other analysis and special projects as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting

  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite

  • Stable work history

  • Detail-oriented

  • High level of intellectual curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, project management and problem-solving skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP

  • Highly motivated individual who can work independently

  • Possess and demonstrate the highest level of personal integrity and professional judgement

  • Be able to work in a collaborative and respectful manner with all levels within the organization, from senior management to operating personnel.
