Advertised Job Summary
The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track, open-rank faculty position in the Department of Hospitality, Resort, and Tourism Management, beginning August 16, 2027. The rank of Assistant or Associate Professor will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
The Hospitality, Resort, and Tourism Management program offers a Bachelor of Science degree with campus-based and online opportunities. The program prepares students for professional careers in the hospitality and tourism industries, including lodging, food and beverage, resort and club management, tourism, and event management. Located in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, USCB provides faculty and students with exceptional opportunities to engage with regional hospitality and tourism organizations and to incorporate experiential learning into the curriculum.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, scholarship, student engagement, and service. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate courses in Hospitality, Resort, and Tourism Management and related areas, with opportunities to teach courses in areas such as event management, human resources, leadership, and hospitality management. Courses may be delivered in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats on the Bluffton and Hilton Head Island campuses and through USCB's online programs. The standard teaching load is 4/4.
Teaching: Teach undergraduate courses in Hospitality, Resort, and Tourism Management and related disciplines; develop and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction across face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities; advise and mentor students; and contribute to curriculum development and assessment. The successful candidate will support experiential and applied learning opportunities that connect classroom instruction with the hospitality and tourism industry.
Scholarship: Maintain an active program of scholarship appropriate to the candidate's area of expertise and rank. Scholarly activities may include peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, applied research, grants, and other contributions to the discipline. Candidates are expected to engage undergraduate students in research, applied projects, and other scholarly or professional activities as appropriate. Contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning are encouraged.
Service: Participate in shared governance and provide service to the program, department, college, and university through committee participation, student advising and mentoring, program assessment, recruitment, and other assigned responsibilities. The successful candidate will also contribute to professional and community service and develop relationships with hospitality and tourism industry partners. Collaboration with the faculty to strengthen connections between USCB and the regional hospitality and tourism community connections with local leaders and foster meaningful experiential learning opportunities for hospitality students.
This 9-month tenure-track position begins on August 16, 2027, and is being advertised as an open-rank position depending on qualifications. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Required Education and Experience
Doctoral degree in Hospitality Management, Tourism, or related field from an accredited institution. Ph.D. preferred but will consider other terminal degrees. ABDs will be considered as long as the degree is earned by the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous work and/or teaching experience in the field of Hospitality or Tourism. Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE®) credentialing is a plus.
