THE POSITION

If you are an energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated person with a passion for the food service industry, we have just the job for you! The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Greene is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated person with the required experience to work as a Corrections Food Service Instructor. Join the DOC in their mission to reduce criminal behavior by providing individualized treatment and education to offenders, resulting in successful community reintegration through accountability and positive change.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports food service operations and inmate vocational training within SCI Greene. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Food Instruction:Teach inmates proper methods for preparing, producing, and serving meals

  • Safety Oversight:Ensure food service areas, tools, and equipment meet safety and sanitation standards

  • Supply Management:Handle requisitioning, receiving, and storing of food and supplies while following first-in, first-out procedures

  • Work Supervision:Direct and assess inmate work assignments and maintain accurate performance records

  • Inmate Control:Maintain care, custody, and control over inmates during work activities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week

  • Work hours are 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with rotating days off.

  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation;or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
