Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) is seeking an MT Blood Bank Supervisor to join our Laboratory Services team. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist who is passionate about transfusion medicine, quality improvement, staff development, and operational excellence.

As the Blood Bank Supervisor, you will oversee the daily operations of the Blood Bank while remaining actively engaged in laboratory testing and patient care services. This position offers the opportunity to combine technical expertise, leadership, and mentorship in a collaborative, critical-access hospital environment.

About This Role

As the MT Blood Bank Supervisor, you will be responsible for the daily operations, staffing, quality programs, regulatory compliance, and performance of the Blood Bank department. You will oversee transfusion services, quality assurance activities, staff training and competency assessment, policy development, equipment management, and accreditation readiness while serving as a resource for laboratory staff, physicians, and healthcare providers. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, you will work as a laboratory generalist, perform complex testing, assist with phlebotomy, support patient care activities, and contribute to the laboratory's efficient operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily Blood Bank operations, including staffing, training, competency assessments, scheduling, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and transfusion services management.

  • Oversee CAP accreditation activities, quality control programs, inspections, audits, corrective actions, and implementation of laboratory policies and procedures.

  • Perform and supervise complex laboratory testing, blood product management, crossmatching, specimen processing, quality control review, and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation.

  • Mentor and support laboratory personnel while collaborating with physicians, nursing staff, and healthcare providers to ensure accurate and timely patient testing and reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline required; Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Minimum five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Laboratory Technician.

  • Strong knowledge of Blood Bank operations and regulatory requirements, including CLIA, CAP, AABB, and applicable state regulations.

  • Ability to work in all areas of the clinical laboratory as a generalist.

  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Lead Technologist, Senior Technologist, or supervisory experience strongly preferred.

  • ASCP or AMT certification preferred.

  • Experience with transfusion services, accreditation processes, quality management programs, and laboratory operations.
