JOB PURPOSE

The Purpose of the Metal Fabricator I is to Cut, Grind, and MIG Weld required materials per enclosures, frames, bracket drawings & customer specifications.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use and operate a variety of hand and power tools, including cold saw, MIG welder, brake press, metal shear, angle grinder, drills, and other hand tools.

  • Follow and maintain all established safety standards and procedures while utilizing required personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Follow and maintain all established quality requirements, standards and procedures.

  • Communicate inventory issues to lead and/or supervisor.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with team members through effective communications while building and maintaining trust & respect.

  • Identify and suggest safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction ideas through department team meetings and or manufacturing manager.

  • Cut square tubing, flat stock, and angle iron into correct lengths and dimensions using approved production drawings.

  • Use brake press and shear to cut and form stainless steel sheets into doors and panels.

  • Identify minor production issues and communicate issues to lead and/or supervisor.

  • Read and interpret production drawings and use fixturing such as squares, clamps, etc. to tack materials into correct shape, ensuring correct angles, flatness, and squareness etc.

  • Inspect tools and equipment to ensure they are reliable and in safe working condition. Report any observed issues to lead and/or supervision.

  • Fabricate and install stainless steel and laminate doors and panels and associated components.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • <1 year Experience in welding/fabrication or Diploma/certificate from reputable welding training technical school

  • Basic math skills.

  • Demonstrates clear, professional, and respectful verbal and written communication in all interactions, consistent with an inclusive work environment.

  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Works independently.

  • Ability to ensure dimensional and visual tolerances are met.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, standard operating procedures, and maintenance instructions.

  • Ability to respectfully collaborate with coworkers and shop personnel.

  • Ability to safely operate a variety of power tools, including but not limited to drills and angle grinders.

  • Familiarity with common steel and other types of materials.

  • Pass Basic Weld Test.

  • Positive proven attendance, quality, and productivity record

  • Read and use a tape measure, square, level, and other basic hand tools.

  • Use decimal to fraction conversion tables and work in 1/16" increments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Vocational / Technical Degree Program Completion

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or drawing, print, diagram form.

  • Ability to work with drawings, blueprints, or schematics.

  • Basic computer skills.
