Job Description

Overview Seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to support financial operations, job cost accounting, and reporting within a growing construction/homebuilding environment. Reporting to the VP of Finance/Controller, this role will maintain accurate project cost records, assist with month-end close activities, support budgeting and forecasting efforts, and partner with construction and purchasing teams to ensure financial accuracy and compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional looking to build expertise in construction or real estate accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and reconcile job cost records for active projects. Review and process vendor invoices, purchase orders, and change orders. Assist with month-end close activities, journal entries, and account reconciliations. Prepare job cost reports, budget-to-actual analyses, and financial reporting support. Track committed costs, budget variances, and subcontractor/vendor accounts. Support budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis. Ensure organized, audit-ready documentation and compliance with internal controls. Collaborate with construction and purchasing teams on cost tracking and approvals. Assist with process improvements and special finance projects.

Skills and Requirements

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 1-3 years of cost accounting, accounting, or financial analysis Strong Excel skills Construction, homebuilding, real estate, or prior internship experience Public accounting experience Familiarity with ERP/Accounting systems
