How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)

We are seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and high-performing Director, Engineering and Technical Services responsible for the technical assessment of assets (Aircraft, Engines, Airframes, APU, Landing Gear & Components). Accomplish Technical Reviews for the Acquisition of engines, APU, airframe and landing gear assemblies to comply with Delta maintenance program following TOPP procedures. Assist in managing engine records reviews, EIS (Engineering Information Summary) reviews and Lease Engine Management.

This position is based in Atlanta, GA and reports to Vice President – Acquisitions and Technical

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Reviewing and coordinating research and analysis of Delta Engineering configuration, DER repairs, Airworthiness Directives and producing EIS packages per applicable TOPP procedures with internal and external stakeholders.

  • The successful Technical Engineering Manager will support the Lease and Sales records tracking process and complete Engineering analysis and coordinate Delta TechOps Engineering Approvals for Acquisitions and CRF materials procured for Delta Airlines.

  • The ideal candidate must have the business acumen and technical intellect to collect, collaborate, communicate, analyze, and make decisions as appropriate, whether individually or within a team environment.

  • In this role, empowered to work directly with our internal and external stakeholders; SCM Acquisition team, Engineering, Fleet, Engine Maintenance, Supplier Operations, MRO and DMS to ensure delivery of reliable assets that support key operational and financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Technical Reviews (TechFit) for the Acquisition and/or lease of engines, APU, airframe and landing gear assemblies to comply with Delta maintenance program following TOPP procedures. Collaborate with DTO Engineering and coordinate with Acquisitions and DMS teams to provide accurate assessments to bridge into the Delta fleet.

  • Manage EIS reviews and ensure assets that deliver meet TechOps “Entry into Service” (EIS) requirements per TechOps TOPP requirements.

  • Accomplish Critical Parts Release research to gain Delta Engineering approvals for material sourced on behalf of Delta; including Airworthiness Directives, DER Repairs and configuration data to meet Delta specific TechOps Configuration Specification Manuals (CSM).

  • Research Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins, DER/PMA databases, Illustrated Parts Catalog, Configuration Specifications to ensure material source approvals meet Delta TechOps configuration requirements.

  • Verify asset hardware configuration requirements, and prior repair approvals for material to meet engine thrust configurations. Validate appropriate market value of owned or procurable assets.

  • Review aircraft and engine configuration requirements for conformity to published technical specification and document any variances. Determine if aircraft or engines are equipped and in a condition that meets objectives for piece-part asset acquisition or disposition.

  • Must develop a thorough understanding of TechOps Policies and Procedures and FAA regulations as they relate to aircraft, engine and component acquisitions and sales.

  • Lead DMS maintenance records department, set and implement standards as needed.

  • Daily interaction with internal and external customers; including but not limited to Engineering, Records, Product Line Managers and Buyers, Acquisitions and Sales teams, Planning, Quality Assurance, and Compliance Services Management to support purchase and sale of DMS and Delta Air Lines assets.

  • Assist in other technical and records areas as assigned.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Prior engineering experience required

  • Demonstrated track record of collaboration and developing relationships across diverse and highly effective teams

  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data

  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.

  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency

  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering preferred. Other technical engineering degrees, will be considered

  • Ability to communicate effectively across large organizations

  • Knowledge of engine green time evaluations and lease modeling (reserves, return conditions, cashflow, etc.)

  • Works well under pressure and able to lead multiple initiatives simultaneously

  • Highly effective written and verbal communicator

  • Problem solving, solution minded approach to collaboration

  • Proficient in use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMS & Salesforce
