Full job description

An affiliate of Colossal is looking for a talented Research Associate with knowledge and passion for ambitious synthetic biology projects and large-scale genome engineering for species conservation and de-extinction. We will be building tools and methodologies for engineering various cell types, and will develop workflows to manipulate large DNA fragments and genomes. The candidate will work with a talented group of engineers and biologists committed to developing novel technologies that will change the world.

This position will be based out of Dallas, TX. Relocation assistance is available

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with senior lab members to support the design, development and testing of multiplex genome engineering tools in mammalian cells

  • Perform routine molecular biology workflows, including plasmid DNA preparation (mini/midi/maxi preps), PCR, gel electrophoresis, and gel analysis

  • Generate high-throughput assays for the buildout of gene editing workflows

  • Assist with general lab operations, such as inventory management, preparation of common stocks, and basic equipment maintenance

  • Work with team members to assess efficiency of genome editing through Sanger/NGS sequencing approaches

  • Work on project milestones

  • Attend lab meetings, prepare progress reports and presentations

  • Great organizational skills and excellent laboratory record maintenance

  • Learn new techniques as they become available or implemented within the company

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Hands-on experience in molecular biology (nucleic acid and protein extraction, gel electrophoresis) and cloning techniques (restriction enzyme-based cloning, Gibson assembly)

  • Preferred experience with with PCR and flow cytometry

  • Preferred experience with sequence analysis software (e.g., SnapGene, Geneious)

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as creative problem-solving skills.

  • Preferred familiarity with electronic lab notebooks (ELN) and laboratory inventory management systems

  • Preferred experience with mammalian cell culture

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biological sciences, bioengineering, molecular biology, genetics, or any science related field.

  • Prior hands-on research experience in academia or industry is highly desirable.
