Cook Manager

Arongen/Shatekon Elementary Schools

Shenendehowa Central School District has an anticipated vacancy and is now accepting applications. Job Responsibilities

The position supervises the routine operation of the nutritional food services to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students, staff, and community; responsibilities may include:

  • Implements and adheres to USDA and NYS Nutritional Standards to plan, prepare, and cook quality menu offerings for school breakfast and lunch programs;

  • Supervises the attendance and performance of food service staff; Reviews, prioritizes and assigns cleaning, preparing, serving, food storage duties on a daily basis;

  • Serves as food service point of contact for school building breakfast and lunch programs, including ordering, preparing, serving, and inventory of food and supplies;

  • Uses various tools and resources to assist with menu planning, food preparation, food safety, nutrition, and quality control;

  • Responds to requests for food service support and continuously seeks to improve student participation and quality of the National School Breakfast and Lunch programs;

  • Maintains positive communications (verbal and written) with a variety of stakeholder groups including students, staff and administration; and additional responsibilities as required.

Compensation & Benefits

Step 1 ($22.63/hr) - Step 5 ($25.32/hr)

Certifications/Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED) and three (3) years’ experience in the preparation of food on a large scale OR graduation from a NYS registered or regionally accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree in Applied Science after completion of two-year course in a technical institution with specialization in Foods, Nutrition, and/or Hotel or Restaurant Management.

Solid working knowledge of proper methods for preparing food in large quantities, menu planning, purchasing, sanitary food handling and storage and the care and cleaning of kitchen supplies and equipment. Good knowledge of fundamentals of nutrition with practical application to human health. Ability to utilize modern cooking utensils, appliances, and equipment. Ability to plan and supervise the work of others, understand and carry out verbal and written directions, and establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration. Exhibits good judgment, mental alertness, dependability, tact, and courtesy. Physical condition commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
