Full job description

Summary:

As a Battery System Engineer at Meta, you will take ownership of the battery pack electrical designs and their integrations to power the state-of-the-art devices developed by Reality Labs. You will work closely with our product engineering teams to define battery requirements, aiming to find optimal options for product volume, weight, and run time. Collaboration with safety, reliability, operations, software, and other cross-functional partners will be essential to integrate the battery into the final system and meet system-level performance metrics. You'll own the backend infrastructure behind our battery validation programs — the pipelines, automation, and analysis tooling that turn raw test data into system-level decisions

Required Skills:

Battery Systems Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Work with product groups to define and deliver battery packs as per the requirements

  2. Work with vendors to develop battery packs per Meta’s requirements

  3. Develop electrical and interconnect architectures for battery management systems

  4. Develop engineering requirements and specifications, test and validate plans for the manufacturing and characterization of battery packs

  5. Develop test boards and test fixtures to validate the performance of batteries

  6. Design, build, and own data pipelines that ingest, normalize, and store battery test data from cyclers, thermal chambers, DAQ systems, and on-device logs

  7. Build the validation data backend: schemas, databases, APIs, and services that make test results queryable and reproducible across programs

  8. Support hardware integration related to interfacing hardware and connection issues

  9. Identify system interactions and design factors which impact battery module performance, such as charge time affected by system thermals and battery age, interaction with accessories, and help substantiate product claims on battery runtimes

  10. Perform battery gas gauge performance characterization at both module and system levels

  11. Support software integration of batteries into the system for both functionality and performance

  12. Travel domestically and internationally to suppliers and test labs as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, and/or equivalent industry experience

  2. 6+ years experience in working with of Li-ion battery pack design

  3. Experience applying electrical/computer engineering fundamentals into product solutions

  4. Experience with Python for data analysis and visualization, including libraries such as pandas and NumPy

  5. Demonstrated experience building and maintaining data pipelines, backend services, or test-data management systems

  6. Experience communicating with and working collaboratively with other hardware/software cross-functional team members

  7. Working knowledge of SQL and relational or time-series data stores

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  3. Masters or PhD in Electrical / Computer Engineering or equivalent industry experience

  4. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)

  5. Experience with battery protection circuits, communication protocols such as I2C, UART, and charger interactions

  6. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies

  7. Experience presenting technical findings and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders
