Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience working with global content, privacy and security, consumer protection, copyright, and competition laws.
  • 3 years of experience working with AI legal issues and the AI landscape.
  • Experience using AI tools in a professional environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience as in-house legal counsel at a technology company.
  • Ability to contribute to AI products or systems, and have a balanced view of the opportunities and risks of those AI products or systems.
  • Ability to align with DeepMind’s mission and contribute directly to achieving it.
  • Ability to grow as a supportive team player within a highly collaborative environment.

About the job The DeepMind Legal team provides proactive and strategic legal counseling to accelerate DeepMind’s exceptional technologies. As a Product Counsel, you will work closely with the DeepMind product, engineering and cross-functional teams in order to advise on a variety of legal issues relevant to their work. Specifically, you will collaborate closely with DeepMind product and research teams, other members of the legal team, compliance teams, and with outside counsel when needed to address global privacy and regulatory issues arising from cutting-edge consumer product launches. You also help product teams prepare for upcoming global laws and regulations, and provide support on regulatory investigations.

Your role is focused on product, privacy, and regulatory counseling across Google Gemini. You will play a key role in counseling high-risk product launches globally, implicating cutting-edge AI, machine-learning, privacy, content, copyright, and competition legal issues. You will help build solutions to successfully land product launches globally. You will work closely with key stakeholders across Global Affairs and the wider company to prepare and comply with existing and upcoming global laws. Artificial intelligence will be one of humanity’s most transformative inventions. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $344000 - $382000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Provide front-line individual product, privacy, and regulatory counseling for various consumer product launches across Gemini apps.
  • Build risk-calibrated solutions to help products comply with existing and upcoming global laws.
  • Lead and support various cross-functional and other projects as needed, including regulatory investigations.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with business and product leaders across DeepMind and Gemini teams to identify balanced strategy and solutions for business and legal risks.
