Catallia Mexican Foods is hiring internally for an experienced Maintenance Apprentice to join our team!

Shifts: *Required overtime every other Saturday per production demands

1st - 6:00AM - 2:30PM

2nd - 2:00PM - 10:30PM

3rd - 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM

PAY: $20.50/hr + $2 Shift Differential for 3rd shift only

Position Overview:

This hands-on, entry-level maintenance role supports the day-to-day operation of designated production lines. Working under the guidance of experienced Maintenance Technicians and the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Apprentice will collaborate with Operators, Line Leads, Production, and Quality to support reliable equipment performance, minimize downtime, and promote safe and efficient production. The role is intended for an individual with foundational maintenance knowledge who wants to develop technical skills in a food manufacturing environment.

The Maintenance Apprentice will focus on machine adjustments, basic preventive maintenance, minor repairs, clearing product jams, supporting equipment changeovers, and assisting with the replacement of parts and components. The individual will respond to routine equipment issues, make adjustments to help maintain consistent production, improve productivity and reduce waste, and escalate more complex electrical or mechanical issues to experienced Maintenance Technicians when necessary. This role provides an opportunity to build hands-on experience with production equipment while developing the knowledge and skills necessary to progress within the Maintenance function.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Monitor assigned production lines continuously to assist maintenance and operators with minor technical issues.

Perform basic, high-frequency preventive maintenance tasks (e.g., lubrication, visual inspections, filter changes, belt tension checks) contributing to an effective, predictive, and preventative maintenance program (including adjustments, repair, and modification of equipment) to improve production efficiency and ensure optimum machine time availability.

Regularly inspect plant production support systems and equipment to support effective plant operation. Resolve basic equipment interruptions, such as clearing product jams, adjusting guides and realigning sensors.

Maintain the manufacturing equipment in a sanitary condition according to Company GMP policies and procedures to ensure the quality of the manufactured product.

Contribute to the maintenance of a fully operational maintenance shop by communicating needs and keeping the area neat and organized.

Prepare (inspect, verify condition) all equipment prior to, and after, use to ensure smooth, sanitary and safe operation.

Communicate effectively with maintenance team members from other shifts to ensure clarity and continuity.

Monitor facilities and equipment for safety (food and teammate) issues and respond appropriately.

Assist senior maintenance technicians during major repairs, troubleshooting and overhauls.

Log interventions and report recurring equipment anomalies in PLEX and/or CMMS system.

Ability to follow and help develop SOPs for other team members and equipment operators.

Strong communication skills to interact effectively with line operators, utilities and leads.

Follow instructions as directed by the Maintenance Lead or other plant executives.

Promote all plant safety, GMP's and food safety policies and procedures.

Actively participate in Food Safety and Food Defense related activities.

Adhere to LOTO and other safety protocols.

Assist production team with changeovers.

Perform additional duties as directed.

Basic Qualifications

Must have experience working with automated equipment and demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude.

Must have experience with equipment evaluation, troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair.

Proficiency in equipment evaluation, troubleshooting, installation, maintenance and repair.

Must have experience in troubleshooting mechanical systems.

Proficiency with a wide range of tools and applications.

Ability to identify problems and react appropriately.

Commitment to process improvement.

Provide your own hand tools.

Technical Qualifications

Must be able to identify equipment problems, troubleshoot issues, and take appropriate corrective action.

Must demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and process improvement.

Must demonstrate the ability to read and understand mechanical systems.

Must provide and maintain required personal hand tools.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand, walk, and bend throughout the assigned shift.

Must be comfortable performing repetitive movements and tasks.

Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Must be comfortable working in a hot environment.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

1-2 year technical certification in Maintenance Mechanics, Electrical, Electronics, and or Industrial Maintenance.

Previous experience in a food manufacturing or bakery environment.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to work alone or on teams.

TIG welding and fabrication skills.

Hands on individual.

Attention to detail.
