Responsibilities

Provides psychological evaluation and psychotherapeutic services to medical patients and when appropriate significant others. Consults with physicians and nurses and makes recommendations for appropriate services. Functions as a clinical resource to members of multidisciplinary treatment teams. May provide recommendations for program development around issues of health psychology. May supervise doctoral and post-doctoral trainees in psychology. Patients may include adolescents, adult, and geriatric populations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs psychological screenings and evaluations to assess psychological functioning.

• Diagnoses mental, emotional, and personality disorders.

• Provides psychotherapy, crisis intervention, group, couples and family therapy appropriate to needs of patients. Documents therapeutic interventions and patient's response. Provides educational services to the patient, family members/significant others, and to the community.

• Consults with physicians, nursing, pastoral care, and other medical staff concerning mental health issues.

• Evaluates patient's need for psychiatric hospitalization.

• Coordinates and manages psychological support for hospitalized patients requiring health psychology services.

• Presents in‑service educational programs to physicians, nurses, pastoral care and mental health staff upon request.

• May supervise doctoral and post-doctoral level trainees in psychology concerning diagnostic, therapeutic, and other related issues.

• May develop and implement new programs and clinical services for department.

• Maintains clinical and theoretical knowledge base by attending continuing education programs.

• Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to manager.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

• Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) with primary study in Clinical Psychology.

• GA Licensed Clinical Psychologist

• Completion of one year supervised clinical internship.

• Must be CPR certified.

PREFERRED:

• One (1) year experience in a medical setting evaluating and treating patients for psychological factors associated with medical problems.
