Summary
About the Position: This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Department of Pathology,Clinical Pathology Service Honolulu, Hawaii. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Duties
- Receives, verifies, and logs incoming biological specimens from MTF clinics and DoD laboratories into LIS/MHSG; evaluates specimen integrity, collection timing, and requisitions, rejecting non-viable samples.
- Serves as a certified shipper for diagnostic/infectious substances under DOT/IATA regulations; manages reference laboratory test routing, special send-outs, and handles Army HIV Force Testing specimens.
- Performs adult and pediatric blood collection (venous/capillary) adhering to infection control; manages reception desk, patient check-in via Q-Flow, order entry for internal/external civilian providers, and HIPAA compliance.
- Acts as work lead by distributing tasks, balancing workload, monitoring completion times, and resolving informal issues; trains new hires, Phase II Military Lab Tech students, and hospital personnel on phlebotomy/processing protocols.
- Provides input to supervisory staff on employee performance, training needs, and awards; monitors work environment safety; tracks supply levels, maintains records, and compiles workload/statistical reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing multi step laboratory examinations and procedures; conducting routine quality control checks and trouble shooting common instrument issues: and runs quality control samples on all instruments; perform inventory and ordering procedures.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education:One full year (18 semester hours) of progressively higher level of graduate education in a field directly related to the position, such as, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) degrees or Medical Technology, Chemistry, Microbiology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
