Part-Time Medical Director, Psychiatry

Location:PESP

Status:Part-time 30 hours

Salary Range:200K - 210K

Job Description:

As the Medical Director, you will provide strategic clinical oversight while maintaining an active role in patient care and join a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment focused on timely assessments, appropriate dispositions, and patient-centered outcomes.

Flexible scheduling is available within a 24/7 program model, with coverage delivered through a combination of telepsychiatry and in-person evaluations. 24/7 on-call coverage is also required. Scheduling is tailored to align physician availability and programmatic needs and will be discussed during the interview process.

What You Will Do:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to determine if individuals meet New Jersey commitment standards, ensuring timely, accurate, and defensible documentation

  • Provide focused, short-term medication management in emergency and crisis settings for both adult and pediatric populations

  • Complete Screening Certificates when clinically and legally indicated, in accordance with New Jersey Statutes Annotated 30:4-27.5

  • Champion care in the least restrictive environment, developing and documenting alternatives to hospitalization whenever appropriate

  • Collaborate closely with certified screeners, crisis clinicians, emergency department teams, and receiving facilities to ensure seamless care transitions

  • Engage with families and support systems to provide education, guidance, and continuity of care

  • Participate in interdisciplinary case reviews, clinical discussions, and quality initiatives

  • Maintain precise, timely, and compliant clinical documentation

  • Deliver care via telepsychiatry when clinically appropriate

Medical Director Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight for psychiatric services within the program

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards, clinical best practices, and organizational policies

  • Serve as a key clinical resource to multidisciplinary staff, offering consultation and guidance

  • Support ongoing quality improvement, program development, and clinical excellence initiatives

What We Need to See:

  • MD or DO from an accredited institution

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry (Board Certification required for Medical Director)

  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in emergency psychiatry, consultation-liaison, or inpatient settings preferred

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience required for Medical Director role

  • Familiarity with New Jersey Screening Law is highly desirable

  • Commitment to clinical excellence, collaboration, and high-quality patient care
