District Recruitment for Rapides Parish: Help keep Louisiana’s roads and bridges safe while building a long-term career in public service. This position offers hands-on work, paid training, and opportunities for career growth within DOTD. At the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), we plan, build, maintain, and protect the transportation systems that connect communities, support commerce, and keep Louisiana moving. District Sign Specialist help keep Louisiana’s roads and bridges safe by performing the duties related to the complete installation and maintenance of highway signs throughout the District on all state and federal routes including urban and rural areas. No experience is required — training is provided, with opportunities for career progression. Possession of a current Class D Chauffer's License. This is an outdoor, physically active role that may involve varying weather conditions, shift work, night work, overtime, travel, or emergency call-outs depending on assignment. Positions are located in Rapides, District 08/Unit 750 and report to Highway Foreman. No experience or training is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a current Class D Chauffer's License. The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here. Job Duties Depending on assignment and experience level, District Sign Specialist may:

  • Possess a Class D Chauffeur's License

  • Pass random drug testing

  • Operate a forklift, gasoline post driver/auger, and various hand tools

  • Lift 75 lbs. repeatedly

  • Have knowledge of the use of UHF radio and proper radio etiquette

  • Utilize cell phones, GPS devices, computer and email to facilitate communication.

This role requires reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.

Position-Specific Details: Compensation:

  • District Sign Specialist 1 - $35,734.00 Annually

  • District Sign Specialist 2 - $ 40,914.00 Annually

Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy. Career Progression: This position may be filled as District Sign Specialist 1or District Sign Specialist 2, based on qualifications and agency needs. Licensing Requirements: Certain levels may require a valid Louisiana Class “D” Chauffeur’s License or CDL prior to permanent appointment or start date, depending on assignment. Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
