Job Description

A lead defense contractor, is continuing growth, and is seeking a Systems Engineer II to support the development, integration, and testing of advanced unmanned aircraft systems. This role will be required to be onsite in Petaluma, CA working full time at their manufacturing site. This person will be required for minimal travel to their in field test sites in Oregon and California. He/She will be apart of a 30-person engineering organization supporting both R&D and production programs in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. This is an excellent opportunity for engineers who enjoy working directly with aircraft systems, sensors, communications hardware, and flight testing rather than purely theoretical or architecture-focused engineering. Engineers will have visibility across the full product lifecycle and work closely with Software, Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls Engineering teams. This role will be paying between $85-125k depending on years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

Integrate new hardware, sensors, RF communications systems, GPS antennas, and electronic components into unmanned aircraft platforms. Support system integration, verification, validation, and troubleshooting activities. Develop and execute system, ground, and flight test plans. Instrument aircraft and test assets to collect and analyze performance data. Support remote and on-site testing activities at manufacturing and field test locations. Develop, manage, and verify system requirements using requirements management tools. Participate in requirements reviews, design reviews, and technical evaluations. Document test procedures, results, and engineering findings. Support the transition of new technologies and prototypes into production.

Skills and Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field. 2-5 years of experience in Systems Engineering, Integration & Test, Validation, Verification, or related engineering roles. Hands-on experience with hardware integration, testing, and troubleshooting. Experience with requirements management and system verification processes. Familiarity with MATLAB and technical data analysis. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Aerospace, defense, UAV/UAS, ISR, or autonomous systems experience. Experience with RF communications, networking, IP protocols, avionics, or aircraft electronics. Knowledge of sensors, cameras, gimbals, payloads, or mission systems. Experience with Jama or other requirements management tools. Programming or scripting experience with Python, C/C++, or MATLAB. Flight test, data acquisition, or systems integration experience.
