Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Materials Test Technician (2nd Shift) to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the Mechanical Test Department, the Materials Test Technician position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and ensures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision.

Element Daleville is a materials testing laboratory located in Daleville, Indiana, supporting aerospace, defense, and critical manufacturing customers across the region.

Core capabilities include mechanical testing, metallurgical evaluation, and chemistry testing for metals and alloys used in high-performance applications. Services include tensile testing (room and elevated temperature), hardness testing, Charpy and Izod impact testing, metallography and microstructural evaluation, weld testing and welder qualification support, macroetch and weld macro examination, heat treatment services, stress rupture and creep rupture testing, and metallurgical failure analysis support.

Salary: $20- $24/hr DOE

Responsibilities

  • Performs tests as directed by customer specifications, including, but not limited to: Room and Elevated Temperature Tensile; Stress and Creep Rupture; Charpy and IZOD; Hardness; Heat Treatment; Bend; Hydrogen Embrittlement

  • At times operates under the supervision of a more senior test technician and/or a Department Manager

  • Interacts periodically with customers

  • Adheres to all Element Safety Standards

  • Performs all responsibilities in accordance with Element's established Standard Operating Procedures

  • Prepares material specimens for testing

  • Ensures tests are performed using calibrated and well-maintained equipment

  • Operates equipment per manufacturer and safety requirements

  • Gathers and records test data, determining material conformance to customer requirements and industry standards

Skills / Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety

  • HS diploma or GED certificate preferred. College or vocational school coursework welcomed

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a testing related field

  • Analyzes and compiles testing data from the tests performed

  • Basic understanding of testing concepts

  • Possess computer skills; ability to use Microsoft Office Applications

  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plus

Physical Demands:

  • Frequency of required physical force: Minimum (moderate)

  • Lifting requirements: lifting <50 lbs. often and >50 lbs. on occasion

  • Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time

  • Ability to lift 50+lbs periodically
